Ty Rattie is on a hot streak. The same can‘t be said for the Kelowna Rockets.

Rattie had a three-point night for Portland with two goals and an assist, as did teammate Ryan Johansen, as the Winterhawks beat the Rockets 5-1 on Saturday night at Prospera Place. After scoring three goals and two assists in Portland‘s 8-6 win in Kamloops on Friday night, Rattie left the Thompson-Okanagan with eight points in two games.

"It‘s pretty exciting to see where we‘re at as a team right now," Rattie said after Portland‘s victory, a win which saw the Winterhawks survive an early push by Kelowna. Up just 1-0 after the first period, Portland began pushing back, then took the game over with its skilled fleet of forwards with two goals in both the second and third periods.

"We don‘t want to get too high, because it‘s a 72-game season and we‘re only at Game 11," continued Rattie. "A lot can change, but we‘re happy with how our season has started."

That Rattie scored more points in two games than Kelowna‘s leading scorers, Shane McColgan (1-6-7) and Zach Franko (3-4-7), both with seven points, is a rather telling statistic. Fittingly, this lack of offence has resulted in a win-loss scenario of late for the Rockets, who are 2-2 in their last four games.

"The turning point was when they scored their second and third goals," said Mitchell Callahan, who was Kelowna‘s best player in the game. "We came out real strong in the first period, and I thought we out-competed them for most of it. In the second, we were outplaying them, but once they scored those two goals, our team kinda deflated a bit.

"That‘s something we have to learn from, how to bounce back from stuff like that. We have to learn how not to be fazed after they score a goal or two. We still have a lot of learning to do, but it‘s still early in the season."

Spencer Bennett, with his sixth goal of the season, also scored for Portland (8-2-0-1), which led 1-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks.

Geordie Wudrick, with his first, replied for Kelowna (3-6-0-0), which tried keeping pace with Portland, but made too many mistakes against the high-flying Winterhawks. The loss came on the heels of a 4-3 win in Chilliwack on Friday night.

Adam Brown made 27 stops for the Rockets, while Mac Carruth stopped 32 shots for the Winterhawks.

ICE CHIPS: Kelowna‘s scratches were D Tyson Barrie (hamstring), D Mitchell Chapman (suspension for kneeing, game misconduct in 4-3 win on Friday at Chilliwack), C Gal Koren and C Cody Chikie. Portland‘s scratches were G Ian Curtis, D Joe Morrow, C Jason Trott and LW Nino Niederreiter, who is still with the NHL‘s New York Islanders.
