There are a lot of concerns over the Hurricanes specialty teams, especially their power play that sits at a league worst 9.0%. Just for the heck of it I looked through the WHL web site and over the course of the last 15 seasons, (all that they have recorded) the Hurricanes have only hit the 20% or better twice. In 96-97 they were 7th at 27.2% and in 07-08 they were 6th at 21%. Certainly our powerplay has usually been below the top ten more often than not. In some of those years we had a lot of offensive talent. On the other hand our penalty kill has been 1st once in 98-99 at 86.3% and 2nd at 85.8%.
In 5 of those 15 years we were below 80%. So based on those numbers our PK has been pretty good and this year we are 7th at 83.6%

Point being, our power play will have to improve drastically in order that we can stay in the playoff race. Our penalty killing will have to stay at least where it is while reducing the number of pp opportunities given to the opposition.

The PP and PK are critical to winning in this new style of hockey. Canes have had a really good PK all year and that is why we are in the top half of the playoff bound teams. Now that the PP is starting to go we have won 3 in a row and are bound for our 4th straight win tonight, as we lead the HItmen 4-2, end of 2. GO CANES

in the last 4 games I believe. Not surprising then that they have 9 out of a possible 10 points in their last 5 games. Proves how crucial the PP is in today's style of hockey.
Listening to Pat's great broadcast right now though and the Canes just failed to score on 5 min man advantage against the Jaw. Might cost them the game.

Just checking Tanner Kovacs stats in midget. Phenomenal!
We should be set in net for the next three or four years. http://www.amhl.ab.ca/2011-Leaders.htm

Yes Anderson had moments of brilliance tonight as well as a lot of God awful moments.
We stink stank stunk...to quote Dr. Suess.
Thankfully there is 24 hours and the boys can get over it.
Braes left got a workout tonight! :)

Game got away from them in a hurry that is for sure, but I will never be able to understand why the staff uses a different standard of accountability throughout the lineup......boggles thy mind......it has to be a major frustration for those who aren't on the "it list"......
