Giants Shave Bruins
Vancouver 2 Chilliwack 1

Congratulations to Don Hay for finally getting his 500th win as a WHL coach. The Giants managed to come back from being down one, getting the lead and holding on for the regulation victory. The Giants needed to not only not give away a point to a division rival, but bump their season slump versus the Bruins and get a bit of revenge for the Remembrance Day debacle.

The Bruins got the only goal of the first, a PP marker off the stick of Robin Soudek. The Giants came back in the second and despite being out shot in the period, they were the only team to score. The G’s scored a PP tally at 2:55 of the middle frame. Neil Manning got the goal with Brendan Gallagher and Matt MacKay getting the helpers. Gallagher scored just past the mid-way mark assisted by Manning and Jordan Martinook. That was all of the goals in this one as Segal shut the door after just past the two-minute mark of the first period giving his team a chance to come back and get the win for Hay.

Rookie Watch: Dalton Sward, Matt Bellerive and Cain Franson were all even with no PIMs. Tyler Hart was a +1 and had a couple of PIMs.

Fight Night: only one actual fight, but a bunch of scrums after the whistle. Brett Lyon and Curt Gogol dropped the mitts a mere 8 seconds into the game. I expect the league will have something to say about that as they have rules for fights within the first minute of the game.

Zebra Cage: Officials tonight went out of their way to make-up equalisation penalties and did not seem to have control of the game what-so-ever. How do you call an unsportsmanlike “diving” off of a roughing call? Also in my estimation the two players tagged for diving in this one are the types of players who take a ton more to drag down than your average player and not the type to dive. I really question what game the refs were watching.

The Bruins out shot the Giants 32-26; they were 1 for 3 on the PP while the Giants went 1 for 6. Mark Segal earned first star honours and Lucas Gore was no slouch himself on the other side of the puck. Gallagher had another good game, in on all the goals and a force out on the ice. Manning was effective on the offensive (and defensive) side as he was in on both goals as well. The Giants have a few days before they take on Kamloops Tuesday Dec 7th, a day the Giants hope won’t live in infamy. Kamloops reside at the bottom of the division and its another chance for the G’s to put together a statement game, get Cunningham rolling again and finding some secondary scoring. The puck drops on Tuesday at 7pm at the Coliseum.

Three Stars:

1. Mark Segal
2. Brendan Gallagher
3. Lucas Gore

Dondos Doghouse: The Giants PP still needs some work and make teams pay for taking penalties.
