I think that the physical and defensive stile of game the Rockets Play is going to shock the other teams and even catch them off guard. There is no team that has more comitment to there system and I just don't see a whole lot of respect given to them in this apperance. It just seems to me that the only thing people out east are looking at is the Sydney Crosby and London Knights story. There will be a lot of people watching the Rockets play with there mouths wide open thinking where did these guys come from. By then it will be to late as the Rockets will have already drank from the cup. :thumb:

Good points made. I am looking forward to seeing if London had such a great season because 1) They are a great team or 2) They are a good team playing in a weak league. Only time will tell I guess.

I see one of the goalies for Ottawa goes by the name of Matthew Spezza. Any relation to Jason Spezza?

Not a very big defense, one guy over 200lbs, will they be able to stop the Rockets crashing the net?

# Player Position Ht Wt
2 Beard Brodie Defenceman 6.01 190
3 Van Herpt Nick Defenceman 6.00 185
4 Colbert Will Defenceman 6.02 190
5 Jarram David Defenceman 6.03 195

22 Lawrance Robbie Defenceman 6.01 180
77 Joslin Derek Defenceman 6.01 175
85 Reid Elgin Defenceman 6.00 180

Number 10 player McGinn in scoring has 11 points for the 67's, Cumisky is the Rockets number 10 player has 13, alittle more balance scoring.

Besides a few offensive weapons, The 67's have one of the best goalies in the C.H.L. This kid can stand on his head. Has very few rebounds and directs the puck very well.

There are a lot of people out east who don't realize how good Kelowna is for sure and will be in for a surprise. On the other hand, there are also people from out West who are apparently naive enough to think the Rockets just have to show up to win this thing because they won *last year*. After all, the west is so absolutely fantastic and deep it's best team can't possibly lose to anybody from the east where defense isn't played.

Kelowna may win, they are quite the strong team, but they're gonna be playing *much* better teams then they met in last years memorial cup.

As I was looking through the Ottawa roster, I couldn't help but notice their 3 goalies.

Battochio-- Born in 1985.

Guadagnolo-- Born in 1986.

Spezza-- Born in 1986.

They are carrying a 20 yr old starter with 2 19 year old back ups?

Am I missing something?

When is the last time a team carried 3 goalies that were that old?

Can anyone think of any teams that did this?

He hasn't been the same since the knights made him take off his cheater blade - not sure if he just lost confidence or what.

Ottawa's big weakness is their inexperienced D - if Kelowna is able to take advantage of that they'll win the game.

Matthew Spezza is no Jason... in fact he's average at best and rarely dresses. The 67's acquired him from Kingston because Battochio missed most of the regular season recovering from injury. The 67's needed a backup for Guadagnolo and traded for Spezza from Kingston.

Spezza hasn't dressed at all for the playoffs, and barring injury, you won't see him at the Memorial Cup.

I am not being naive about the strenght of the eastern teams. I know that you don't get a record like the Knights have with out haveing a great team and system, also that Sydney Crosby can single handed win a game. Where I base may statement is from what I read in the papers and other media from the east that say nothing about the Rockets and the power team that they are. In my opinion the thing that will kill the teams from the east will be taking the Rockets lightly, If they do they will lose.

The media in the east has mostly overlooked the Rockets for sure- especially in the light of the exciting Rimouski / London matchup. London has the great streak and is a pretty big city, and Rimouski has the big star and it's own streak - it's not surprising that they get most of the press, deserved or not.

That being said, I seriously doubt any of the teams and players are overlooking the Rockets. They would be fools to - especially considering they are the defending champs.

Overlook who?

Please when you discuss the media in The East or Toronto is has nothing to do with London or the local media here. We are about a 110 Miles west of the GTA and may as well be a Million.

Toronto Media don't even know much about the Knights never mind Kelowna but trust me the local Media have studied The Rockets very well as have the teams.
There is not a team in this Tournament who is going to surprise anyone with advance scouting and internet now.

The only team who may come under the radar a bit will be Ottawa and they may upset a team or two.( do not take them lightly)

Good luck all and hope to meet some Rocketeers in London.

Simon.

I don't know what paper you've been reading. The free press is falling all over themselves talking about how great the knights are. If you believed them you'd think there were no teams other than Rimouski and London in the Mem Cup. Guys like Cressman are already dropping hints about how the knights could be considered the best ever junior team. I love the knights for sure but those guys aren't what I'd call unbiased.

Kelowna gets a small blurb now and then but *very* little coverage.

Well, you'd expect the LONDON Free Press to talk a lot about the LONDON Knights, wouldn't you?

Simon is right, SW Ontario is ignored by the national media 99% of the time and it's only been the combination of the Knights' season and the absence of the NHL that has caused the national media to notice us.

What's that old saying? "The rest of the country hates Ontario, and the rest of Ontario hates Toronto."

I guess it's too much to expect even one free press reporter to be aware of the other teams in the Mem Cup.

I was hoping for some discussion and coverage of Kelowna & Rimouski - players, strengths & weaknesses and such. All I got was many, many knights articles and a few Crosby articles thrown in.

Coming from a 67's fan and from what I know about Kelowna, I think Kelowna will take it.

That being said I think it will be a good physical game on both sides. I'm guessing the only question for Kelowna is the goaltending, which the backup has seemed to do fine thus far.

Looking for a good clean game, unlike last night in watching the Olympics (both sides).

PS. Jim Cressman is a "knob". Don't take him seriously. Incase you're wondering, I'd rather read Scanlan's articles any day (I'm sure most NHL fans know that name).

I tell you something-- that was a barnburner of a game.

The thing, I think, hurt the Rockets is that they were missing too many golden chances they were given. The 67's locked down on the shooting lanes and passing lanes blocking anything that came their way. Battochio played out of his mind today and if they go really far, they have him to thank for it all.

I expect the Rockets to just come out full boar, ticked off that they couldn't beat the 67's and hopefully will take it to the Knights. Plus, I'm sure they're bitter they had their hotel fire alarm pulled early in the morning.

Read the Freeps to-day and they have some excellent coverage on The Rockets.

Kelowna had a gift handed to them yesterday but someone named Battachio wanted it back and took right out of their hands.

The Rockets suffered their fist Memorial Cup loss since 2003 and will be interesting to see how they respond against London.

They do a fine job of locking up the middle but will be a little harder with London'd speed plus the Knights will dump it in all night and keep the Rockets skating.

Kelowna will need to get some early goals fatigue may hit them heavy by start of third.

That was an excelent game by both teams. I really think that Kelowna outplayed and out skilled the ottawa. The one factor that changed the outcome was there goalie Pistashio what a nut lol but seriously it would have been and easy victory with almost any other goalie last night. Once in a while you can have a game one single handed by a great goaltender and that is what I think happened last night. Congratulations Ottawa and im sure the Rockets will bounce back and be even more determined today.

Battachio was awesome, and so was Westblom. 64 shots on the 67's goal and about 44 on the Rocket net, unreel. Kelowna better get some finish or they won't win a game in London.

Should of known that Comeau would of taken the stupid penalty to lose a pivitol game, sure Blake had a good game but he doesn't use his head half of every game.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. It was the "nothing" game of the tournament, no London and no Crosby to build excitement and hype, and what happens, we get the longest game in Memorial Cup history and a performance by both goaltenders that will be long remembered as one for the ages.

I thought Westblom showed that he is capable of winning a game at the tournament for the Rockets, but they are going to be in trouble tonight. London will be well rested, and the Rockets will be exhausted and no doubt demoralized after losing that game.

The only things i didn't really like was that Spurgeon did not come out to receive his 2nd star award and that about 3000-4000 people left after the first overtime and missed the finish of the game, but thats somewhat to be expected, as i figured if there was going to be a game people did not show up for it would have been yesterdays, but they were out in force again.

Pictures are posted at OHLPhotos.com, as will pictures from tonights game (probably not till tomorrow evening though).

Its Monday in the fair city of London. I am still a little fuzzy as have been most mornings here. The Junior Hockey Junkies are definitly the the stars of this show. The provide first class entertainment to all that attend these events.

The people of London are fantastic!! We have been welcomed by all and wished good luck by most. Festivites abound with lots of friendly people.

The John Labatts Center is easily one of the nicest junior rinks i have ever seen. 9000 seats with good sight lines from most parts of the rink. We are in the nose bleeds but still have a good view of the game. Lost of stars in the crowd here, i met Scotty Bowman, saw Mike Keenan, Ted Nolan, Ray Bourque, and Bobby Smith. Mike Modano is supposed to be in the tent today and of course Sid the Kid was seated only a few seats away.

Tons of Rocket Fans out here - Meeting them at every turn - cheering loud and proud for the boys. Lots of interviews by the papers and Photo ops with the Junkies.

Now to the Hockey - Ottawa did what they had to to win. No excuses their keeper stood very tall to keep them in it and he gave his team a chance to win. We didnt finish when we should have and it came back to bite us in the but.

London looks very good - our boys will have to play better and finish their chances. Westbloom will have to be at his best as the Knights can turn it up at any time. IMO to beat the Knights we have to play down low and grind em up. Slow them down coming out of their end - they have terrific speed. Westy will have to be solid as well.

Thats all for now - from London

Go Rockets Go!!

p.s. the theme here is "show your rockets"....lol

Definately a much more physical game, than the first game of this tournament.

So this will be the Rocket's only loss.
