Just was looking at the Bantam Draft archive on the WHL site........I couldn't believe some of the low draft picks that have made an impact and players the Chiefs passed on....one example......in 2001 the Chiefs picked
Gillen 11th. O/A
Lukacevic 30th. O/A
Schenn 49th. O/A

Seattle
Zach FitzGerald 63rd. O/A

Bet Speltz is kicking himself now :)

1999 Bantam draft.
Spokane......Over all draft pick........Everyone else
Brad Schell #3............................ Alex Leavitt SC #29
Desautels #21.............................Cam Ward RD #63
Stuart Kerr #84...........................Derek Couture Sask. #110
Ryan Morris #57..........................Tristan Grant Leth. #134
Jeff Tambellini #76.......................Dylan Stanley TC #159
Adam Rosenke #79
Ryan Senft #93
Beau Adams #101
John Webb #129
Lane Scruggs #147
Well it's pretty easy to be an arm chair GM but...........Grant, Desautels and Derek Couture could have all been on the same team? Scary

Yeah...well...most Spokane fans think Ray Dudra is infallible but as of late I haven't been impressed...

It IS hard to know if this is Speltz or Dudra...it could be just plain old bad luck also...

Every team in the league could be complaining about the exact same things.

Lets not forget that Tim Smith was never drafted, Lynn Loyns was a 10th rounder, Chris Barr was a late round guy too.

The Chiefs have always been better at picking in the later rounds than the earlier ones I think. You can't really tell what a player is going to be like when they are 14 and in a prime growth period in their lives.

Good points...it's hard to know what a kid at 14 is going to be like when He's 18...

I agree, I've noticed that we seem to do better with our picks in the later rounds than in the early rounds...kind of strange really...
