Sources in Canada have confirmed that Spokane native Tyler Johnson, the Spokane Chiefs’ leading scorer, will sign a three-year entry level contract with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning when the Chiefs returns from their two-game weekend series in Prince George.

Johnson is second in the league scoring race with 105 points, four points behind Linden Vey of Medicine Hat. He has 47 goals after getting one in the 5-4 win over PG on Friday, to lead the league, and 58 assists with eight games to play.

Congratulations Tyler! All your hard work finally paid off. 29 other teams are going to be kicking themselves for not getting Johnson on the books before Tampa.

Not shocking at all to see that the Lightning were one of the teams that offered him a contract. With St. Louis they already knew that even small guys can make a huge impact in the NHL. Seems like too many NHL GMs are still stuck in the "bigger bodies" mindset.

Congratulations to Tyler Johnson on signing with Tampa Bay.Not bad for an 11th round bantam pick. Good to see smaller guys get rewarded.

Way to go Johnson, its to bad the WHL doesn't go for more smaller guys like him and Kozun, guys with speed and weave their way through the bigger players and score goals. The league should change its strategy of being a physical league to a more offense dominating league.
