Big Day today. Couple of 1st round picks. Won't really know how these kids are going to pan out for a couple of years but still it is an exciting day overall. On the plus side too I know several kids from the Selkirk/St.Andrews area that are going to be drafted as well.

I wouldn't mind seeing us grab Thomson and Brooks in the 1st round. 2 Manitoba boys. 1 That is probably a sure bet to play and another that is little riskier but has tremendous upside.

Hope you will post about the young men you have some knowledge of when their names get called.

I am pretty sure Kord played some forward at AB Cup. Interesting I didn't think he would go this high up. Nice size on him.

Papirny can play thats for sure. He is a good goalie. In my top 3 in Alberta (3 guys who are all very special). He goes first of the 3 I am not sure he is better than a kid like Derek Mazil or Patrick Gora but he is as good and will be very good at the next level. Another solid pick for Brandon.

Solid pick in the 3rd round. Guy was thought to go in the first. Read some good stuff on him. Can really score.

Queneville in the 3rd. I like this kids vision from what I saw in the AMBHL finals. I think sometimes he backs off a bit and plays perimiter but he is a big boy and when he goes at it he can be very strong. Maybe slightly on the heavy side of actual playing weight but that makes it scary. If he leans up and adds some speed he may be a lot better than this selection.

Did Luber screw up the stats on this guy?...

"Brandon selected Roblin product Jayce Hawryluk in the second round of the WHL Bantam Draft, #32 overall. Hawryluk is a 5-foot-8, 150 pound forward who had 138 goals and 264 points in 54 games with the Russell Rams last season"

Joe Hallenback

No that is probably true because they would be playing a ton of really poor teams in the Rural AA league.

He is a good sized dman but to be honest a little suprised he went at this point. He never did anything to set himself apart for me and I didn't see him as a guy I would want to have to match around at that level. I would have expected him to go a hair later like 7 or 8 round at best.

Joe Hallenback

It is not shocking for me at least they must have liked him and it wouldn't surprise me if it just size and lets see what he does next year kind of pick.

In the 9th you grabbed a young man named Dominic Thom. He is a good pick in the 9th and he should play in the league if he keeps developing. This player came a long ways over the course of the season. He is a bit on the raw side but he has great size is a good skater and has the potential to be an offensive player. His stats may not bear that out but he truly isn't scared of the rush and makes good decisions while he is up there. None of the defense on his team this year produced a ton of points so he is a victim of that as well. This kid loves to listen and learn and really has the right attitude for a player who is going to improve. He might take an extra year but when he does come he will be a solid presence at the back. I am not suprised Brandon selected him he is totally a Brandon style player from the guys I have watched the past few years.

Another good one in Gregor. I don't think he is a sure thing but I liked him in AB Cup. He was quick and showed off a pretty good shot. He was a big producer in the AMBHL as well this year. Couple late round steals for Kelly not bad.
