View Full Version : 9 Silvertips invited to Under-17 Provincial Camps

The Everett Silvertips will have nine players from their 2004 Draft Class trying out for their respected provinces this summer to earn a spot to play in the 2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Regina, Saskatchewan.

For Team Pacific, (Alberta and British Columbia) Eric Doyle, Trevor Conrad and Matt Meropoulis will tryout in July to make the Top 11 from Alberta and Mike Alexander will try to earn a spot in the Top 11 from British Columbia. Team Pacific is comprised of the top 22 under-17 aged athletes from Alberta and British Columbia, with each province selecting 11 players.

Eric Doyle, the Silvertips First Round Pick (15th Overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft tallied 9 goals and 20 assists for the Calgary Buffaloes of the Alberta Midget Hockey League in the 2004-2005 season. The Calgary, Alberta native also led all Buffalo defensemen in scoring last season.

Trevor Conrad tallied 9 goals and added 6 assists for the Spruce Grove Timberwolves of the Rural Alberta Midget-AAA Hockey League last season. The Spruce Grove, Alberta native was selected by the Everett Silvertips in the 6th Round (116th Overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft.

Matt Meropoulis, the Silvertips 7th Round Pick (133rd Overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft suited up for the Knights of Columbus Pats of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League in the 2004-2005 season. The Edmonton, Alberta native added 8 goals for the Pats last season. Defenseman Mike Alexander tallied 4 goals and added 3 assists for the Notre Dame Argos of the Saskatchewan Midget-AAA Hockey League last season. The Campbell River, B.C. native was selected by the Silvertips in the 8th Round (153rd Overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft.

Keegan Bourelle, Jesse Burt, Mitch Wall, Shayne Barrie and Chris Ward have been invited to tryout for Team Western (Saskatchewan and Manitoba). Bourelle the Silvertips 2nd Round (27th Overall) draft pick in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft posted 4 goals and 6 assists in 38 games for the North Battleford Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget-AAA Hockey League.

Wall the Silvertips 5th Round (93rd Overall) selection in the 2004 Bantam Draft, tallied 3 goals and 8 assists in 36 games for the North Battleford Stars. Jesse Burt the Silvertips 10th Round Selection (193rd Overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft also suited up for the North Battleford Stars last season. Burt added 9 points in 40 games with the Stars in 2004-2005. Goaltender Shayne Barrie posted an 11-11-2 record with the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget-AAA Hockey League in 2004-2005. The Silvertips 11th Round Pick (213th Overall) compiled a 3.12 Goals Against Average and 3 Shutouts for the Pat Canadians last season.

Ward, the Silvertips 4th Round Pick (75th Overall) posted a 16-0 record for the Winnipeg Warriors of the Winnipeg Midget-AAA Hockey League last season. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native also recorded a 1.68 Goals Against Average for the Warriors in the 2004-2005 season.

"This is a testament of the hard work the kids put in this summer to earn a spot to tryout for their respected teams," mentions Silvertips Head Scout, Scott Scoville. "It is also a feather in the cap for our scouting staff for all of their hard work as well. The 2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will take place in Regina, Saskatchewan from December 29th, 2005 to January 4th, 2006. It is the first stage for Hockey Canada to identify players for the National Under-18 Team and the World Junior Team.
