Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are extremely excited to announce that their home opening game this Saturday against the Vancouver Giants is sold out!
The Western Hockey League returns to the city of Victoria this weekend for the first time since 1994. The first 6,000 fans through the doors on opening night will receive a cowbell, provided by National Bank Financial Group, to help cheer on the Royals in the first WHL regular season game at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. Puck-drop is set for 7:17 p.m.

"We are looking forward to a packed house this Saturday," Director of Ticketing Devin Mazur said. "The fan response has been phenomenal thus far and we want to ensure that anyone who wants to be a part of Island hockey history this Saturday can be."

There will still be game tickets released in the coming days and fans are encouraged to check at the Select Your Tickets box office and online at wwww.selectyourtickets.com on a regular basis.

Before the game, Connect Hearing will be performing on-site hearing tests outside the main entrance to the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

The on-ice festivities prior to puck drop include a performance from "Mr. O Canada", Mark Donnelly, who will sing the Canadian anthem. Donnelly has become famous to hockey fans from coast-to-coast as the anthem singer for the Vancouver Canucks, is known for holding the microphone to the crowd and encouraging fans to sing along to 'O Canada'.

A ceremonial puck-drop will follow featuring RG Properties CEO Graham Lee, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Ida Chong, Mayor of Victoria Dean Fortin, WHL Commissioner Ron Robison and WHL Chairman of the Board Bruce Hamilton.

During the game, fans will be able to purchase tickets for the Royals' 50/50 draw. Proceeds from the 50/50 draw will be donated to the Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC), which provides counseling and support services to people dealing with hearing loss.

Fans also have the opportunity to win prizes in the Royals' Chuck-a-Puck contest in the second intermission. Old House Village Hotel and Spa is awarding a one night stay and spa treatment for two and Tesseract will hand out an in-home PC consultation prize pack. Proceeds from Chuck-A-Puck sales will also go to the IDHHC.

For those fans unable to witness the action first hand, Marlon Martens will be calling the game live on The Zone @91.3 FM, ensuring that no one misses out on the return of the WHL to Victoria. Fans can also tune into the live broadcast at www.thezone.fm and www.victoriaroyals.com.

Royals' fans next chance to catch their team in action is Thursday, October 6th, when the Medicine Hat Tigers visit the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
