To kelowna for Colton Jobke and a 2nd, as well as a 5th.
Not sure if any of those picks are conditional, or anything about this Jobke kid.
I dont like the trade, but its a tricky situation. Bell clearly wasnt going to play for the pats, so this is better than nothing. The kid we got is 19, and signed to a contract with the Wild...so he might be good but also might only be a one year player...and then all we got is a second and a fifth.
This also means that we will probably see a couple more cuts on defence.

personally i like it having its own thread, then all the talk on the trade can stay in here instead of being in the training camp thread & since training camp is over so should that thread.
On topic now i really like this trade, even if Bell was with the team & didnt have any legal problems its still a very good trade for the Pats. Jobke is a solid Dman & the Wild rewarded him with a contract as well for his efforts.
By the looks of it Bell is reporting to KEL & is expected to be in the lineup this weekend. I think this trade is for the best for Bell, he would have to answer to way to many people here in Regina. The media, the family & friends of the young girl whom we all know what has happened but cuz he is going thru courts as a minor i wont say what for. Bell can concentrate on hockey now. Im guessing the legal system is going to fail in this case, no team would of taken a chance on Bell if they didnt have some insight on the legal situation & what KEL paid for Bell there must be some loop holes that Bell is going to fall into.
The Pats should be happy they got anything for Bell, cuz realisticly we could of got NOTHING. We got a very solid Dman who can play top 4 minutes & who has been noticed by the NHL. We also got a 2nd rd pick which could turn into a gem but could also turn into a flop so time will tell with that pick, as well as the 5th rd pick.
Our top 5 D are looking very strong now with the return of Davidson & Bidlevskii & Blidstrand from pro camps & then throw into the mix Underwood, & not Jobke our top 5 looks very good. Burroughs will continue to improve & i believe will see alot of PP time as well. I personally would be trading Peel now as he does have alot of potential & could bring back a solid 17/18yr old forward (that we do need) then the Pats can keep a depth Dman in Zimbaluk & send Williams down to the Pat Canadians where he can log a ton of ice & continue to develop for next season. Im thinking with this trade it definately is the end for the Pats with Bortsmayer, he will be traded or reassigned to the SJHL after this weekend.

On topic now i really like this trade, even if Bell was with the team & didnt have any legal problems its still a very good trade for the Pats.It is a fantastic trade for the Pats, as they got face value for damaged goods. Who knows if he will physically be able to return to his previous form, or more importantly if he will cope mentally with the guilt and with what is sure to be years of abuse from the fans. On top of that, Regina unloads a TON of bad publicity and karma onto Kelowna. I half expected Regina to trade him at some point--I just thought it would be a year or more after the accident, rather than a few months... I for one will be pulling for him and the Kelowna Rockets to fail this season.
I think this trade is for the best for Bell, he would have to answer to way to many people here in Regina. The media, the family & friends of the young girlKelowna has media, and fans, also he has to travel to other rinks. While he is probably hoping that it improves his situation, it probably doesn't.

With this move and Davidson returning, clearly the defence should not be a question mark this season, not to mention once the team gets used to the newer systems. The increased stability will benefit our younger forwards with getting accustomed to the league.
I dont think I will ever agree about trading Peel though, Patsdude. He certainly has more upside than Zimbaluk while being younger. With this new depth we have, the top 5 spots are all veterans, and then there is Burroughs and Peel, who will both have bigger roles when Davidson and Bidlevskii are gone next year. While I dont see Zimbaluk being much more than a bottom pairing guy.
Edit: ...and I think Borstmayer will at least play for the pats this season, but I bet he is on a short leash. For all we know, he could get in a groove and take off...but if he doesnt improve, then they should send him to junior A.

Its the best hope he has for a change of scenary. New conference, and everything. Besides, the media has been pretty hush hush about the whole thing. As for the fans, Myles should not feel compelled to comment about anything in relation to that. It really isnt anybodys business.

When i say the media i mean there is direct ties to Regina with Bell just being that the girl was from Regina. I dont think the KEL media will really care to the degree that the Regina media may care.
Also there are alot of WHL fans out there who dont even know a thing about this case. It is all over this forum so of course everyone on here knows about it. I know its pretty low key but most of my online gaming friends who attend WHL games out west didnt know anything about this case at all. Its not like it has gotten alot of attention especially since they can not release the name of the minor.
It could be a case where they wont bring it up out there to give the kid a break, & even if they do the media can not name Bell has direct ties to the case cuz of the law that protects minors.

Im not saying Peel is garbage by any means he does have some offensive upside, he still plays abit scared in his own end but that will change with more experience. You can definately tell he doesnt like to get hit. The only reason I have suggested to trade Peel is cuz he would bring back a nice return & its not like we have a strong core of 17/18yr old forwards anyways. Zimbaluk wouldnt bring anything back in a trade but yet he is still a very solid guy back there would be a perfect 7th Dman. I dont want to see Peel &/or Burroughs rotting away being in & out of the lineup. Thats a good enough role for Bortsmayer or Zimbaluk but NOT Peel or Burroughs.
All im saying is we all know Lang isnt afraid to make deals, & i am very sure he is well aware that having Peel & Burroughs as the 6th/7th Dmen is not a good idea. Both these kids need to be playing a regular shift every game, & no way in hell is Burroughs even a thought of trade bait or being sent down to Junior A .
I also feel that Burroughs is ahead of Peel in development at this point, I definately wouldnt be a happy fan seeing Burroughs sitting for Peel. As u know none of our top 5 will be sat just to get someone else into the line up.

The biggest thing that this trade gives the Pats is some depth and more cards to play at the trade deadline. They have too many 19 year olds for a team that is looking at the future.
Right now the defense looks like this:
1. Davidson - shut down guy
2. Jobke - will be playing against the other teams top line with Davidson
3. Underwood - physical presence (will most likely play with one of the younger guys)
4. Blidstrand - more of an offensive guy
5. Bidlevskii - steady, not too flashy
6. Burroughs - the future
7. Peel - a pure offensive guy that will be the future QB of the PP
the toss up is the 8th spot. Zimbaluk, Borstmayer and Williams are all fighting for that spot. they have to send Williams down. He is only 16 and needs to play. Send him to the Pat C where he will see a ton of ice time. In my opinion, Zimbaluk has outplayed Borstmayer. Both are in the 18 year old age group. They will not get a ton of ice time and will be on a rotation with the younger guys. the Pats have nothing invested in Zimbaluk, but two years in Borstmayer. And to me that would be the only factor if the Pats choose to keep Borstmayer.
I can see at the trade deadline that there will be a demand for both Davidson and Jobke. They should bring in a couple of prospects and draft picks. Peel and Burroughs will be ready to move up in the line up. Then they will call up Williams for the rest of the year where they can get him some quality ice time.
Quite frankly, if the Pats can find some secondary scoring behind Weal, this is not such a bad team. This is a better team than what they started out with last year.

For what its worth...
I haven't heard that Williams has been re-assigned but his name is off the Pats roster on the WHL site.

Congrats to Bell in his 1st game with the Rockets he got an assist on a PP goal & then scored as the 2nd shooter in the shootout.

Do you think the dead girls family thinks "the past is the past". You are right no need to take cheap shots either. Its an absolute joke however that this man is playing jr hockey this year. Hes not a kid or a boy... he's a man. 18 years old, he should be treated like one.
I don't wish him anything but good luck however. He didn't make the laws of the land. He is just living by them.

Well at the time of the so called accident he was just a kid (according to the law) he was only 17 so there for what u see is what u get. Dont be surprised if all he gets is 6 to 12 months probation along with losing his lisence for 5 yrs. Also most likely the probation will be able to be served under the guidance of the WHL club of the Kelowna Rockets as they have strict curfews & what not.

I couldn't agree more with you. Its just to bad thats the law in my opinion.
But, I digress... This is not a political website... Go Pats.
Pats Dude, you seem to be the resident Pats expert. Maybe you could help me with my quest to know the lines the Pats are running with and the D men pairs.

Bells Sentencing hearing I think is in early November. I'm not sure what he plead guilty to but if it is a criminal code offence and the court does not expounge is record he will not be allow entry in to the USA. Just a thought for what its worth.

the Bell trade has definately worked out well for the Pats.Colton Jobke has been a very steady leader on the back end.He plays smart, tough and make good decisions.Jobke also brought a winning attitude to the Pats

What has surprised you about Jobke after dealing away Myles Bell? What parts of his game do you like the most; apart from his winning attitude?

He is a versatile player. We can put him anywhere because he consistently does everything well... though he isnt excellent in any area.
Hoenstly he could probably use another year here to develop his strengths and become more than a future utility call up type player...but what is evident from watching him is that he is very smart and does alot of the little things right that will make him a good pro someday.

SAJ was bang on he doesnt do anything flashy at all he doe alot of things well tho some nights hes the best Dman out there on both sides other nites he isnt noticable (which isnt a bad thing either)
not sure if u have watched Marc-Andre Bergeron play much but he is alot like him some games he looks amazing other games he isnt too noticable at all, i like Jobke's game alot better then Bell's game not taking anything away from Bell at all both play different styles Bell is more all out offense & Jobke is a more all around Dman.
Bell's stats in KEL 15gp 5g 9a -11 he has always lacked defensive play but with that said KEL isnt a strong team this year by any means, a team who really lacks scoing I would think Lang came out that deal with a steal plus didnt we get a 2nd rd pick as well?
