Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals announced today that defenseman Hayden Rintoul will wear the 'C' on his jersey as the Royals' captain for their inaugural 2011-12 season. Kevin Sundher, Tyler Stahl and Brandon Magee were named as alternate captains.
Rintoul, 20, arrived in Victoria this past offseason in a trade with the Kootenay Ice, winners of the 2010-11 Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions. The Calgary, AB native collected 24 points (5G-19A) in 51 regular season games, followed up by 4 points (1G-3A) in 19 playoff contests.

Sundher and Stahl, both 19, are entering their third seasons with the Royals franchise. Sundher, a Surrey, BC native, finished third in team scoring last season, recording a career high 76 points(24G-52A), while Drumheller, AB product Stahl counted 10 points(1G-9A) during the 2010-11 season.

17-year-old Magee, an Edmonton, AB native, is entering his second season in the WHL after a stellar rookie campaign that saw him put up 29 points(12G-17A) in 65 games, while also leading the team in plus/minus with a rating of +15.

Shaw will be broadcasting the game LIVE throughout Western Canada on Shaw and nationally on Shaw Direct Channel 299, while Royals' play-by-play voice Marlon Martens will be calling the game live on The Zone @91.3 FM, ensuring that no one misses out on the return of the WHL to Victoria.
