Friday, Sept. 30th and Saturday, Oct. 1st

Martin Marincin and the Prince George Cougars welcome Kevin Sundher and the Victoria Royals for a pair of weekend games in Prince George, B.C.

The contest marks the first meeting between the new Victoria WHL franchise and the original Victoria WHL franchise.

The Royals are in their first season in Victoria after relocating from Chilliwack during the off-season. The Cougars were the last franchise to be located in Victoria, calling the B.C. capitol home from 1971 to 1994.

The Cougars opened their 2011-12 WHL regular season with a 1-0 shutout win in Kamloops over the Blazers last Saturday. Drew Owsley put forth a 32-save effort to record his 10th career shutout and his first win as a member of the Cougars. The Cougars have been bolstered by the return of defenseman Martin Marincin from the Edmonton Oilers.

The Royals split a home-and-home series versus the Vancouver Giants to open their first campaign in Victoria, dropping a 5-2 decision in Vancouver on Friday before posting a 5-3 win at home on Saturday. Buffalo Sabres prospect Kevin Sundher (1g-2a) is one of three Cougars players to post three points through the team's first two contests of the season.

This weekend's meetings mark the first of the season between the B.C. Division rivals. The teams split eight encounters last season.

Looking forward to the pair of games this weekend. To make room for Marincin the Cougars released Dane Phaneuf outright. A bit surprised, I thought someone might want him.
