In Cranbrook, B.C., the Kootenay Ice received some kind words and heartfelt thanks from the parents of former Ice star, Matt Fraser. Fraser, a Dallas Stars prospect, spent four seasons with the Ice, culminating with a WHL Championship in his final season last year.

In Lethbridge, AB, the Hurricanes will honor Steve Falwell, the long-time broadcaster and voice of the Hurricanes, prior to Saturday night's meeting with the Swift Current Broncos. The special pre-game ceremony will include the unveiling of the Enmax Centre's new media centre in Falwell's name.


In Medicine Hat, AB, the Tigers are going to Stick it to Breast Cancer on Saturday night when they host the Calgary Hitmen. Tigers' players will be using special pink and white sticks which will be auctioned off in a silent auction, and presented to the winning bidders at the end of the game. Proceeds from the auction go to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research.


In Portland, OR, the Winterhawks announced that their 'Salute to Veterans' game on November 12th will be played at the Rose Garden instead of Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Winterhawks and Intel are also hosting a Soldier Care Package drive at the November 12th game.


In Spokane, WA, fans can help celebrate mascot Boomer the Bear's Birthday when the Chiefs host the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night.


In Vancouver, B.C., Friday night is Date Night when the Giants host the Seattle Thunderbirds. Fans will have the chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii.


In Victoria, B.C., Friday night is Vegas Night at Save-On-Foods Centre as the Royals take on the Kelowna Rockets. Select contestants could win a trip for two to Las Vegas with a roll of the dice.


SASKATOON TO HOST 2013 MASTERCARD MEMORIAL CUP...


Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that the Saskatoon Blades have been selected to host the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup.


The 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup will be held at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from May 17 to 26, 2013 and will mark the 95th edition of the Canadian Hockey League national championship. All games will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet.


Three WHL Clubs - Kelowna Rockets, Red Deer Rebels and Saskatoon Blades submitted applications to host the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup. The decision to award the hosting of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup to Saskatoon was made by a majority vote of the WHL Board of Governors on Wednesday, October 12th in Calgary.


ROSTERS, COACHES SET FOR WESTERN CANADA U-16 CHALLENGE...


Calgary, AB - The four Western Provincial Hockey Associations - Hockey Alberta, BC Hockey, Hockey Manitoba and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association - in partnership with the Western Hockey League (WHL) and Moose Jaw Warriors are pleased to announce the players and coaching staff competing in the 2011 Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup.


The Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup will be held at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, SK, October 27 - 30, and will feature the highest rated players in the Under 16 age category representing the four Western Provinces of Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The four team round robin tournament format will assist the four Western Provincial Hockey Associations in evaluating these top prospects for future Program of Excellence competitions.


RED HOT ETEM TAKES WHL AND CHL WEEKLY HONORS...


Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Emerson Etem of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the CHL Player of the Week after scoring six goals and one assist for seven points in three games along with a plus-minus rating of plus-2 for the week ending October 9.

Regina Pats @ Edmonton Oil Kings

Friday, October 14th


Stephane Legault and the Edmonton Oil Kings host Morgan Klimchuk and the Regina Pats on Friday night for a battle between two Clubs enjoying early-season success.


The Oil Kings wrapped up a five-game road trip with a 6-1 victory in Cranbrook over the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday night. The Oil Kings went 4-1 on their five-game road swing, putting them into first place in the Eastern Conference standings with 14 points. Legault has racked up five goals and six points over his past four games.


The Pats pulled off a come-from-behind win over the Hitmen in Calgary on Wednesday night, defeating the hosts 4-3 in a shootout after trailing the game 3-1 with under three minutes left to play in the third period. Wednesday's win improved the Pats to 4-1 on the road this season. Klimchuk, a Calgary product, notched a goal and an assist, and scored in the shootout in Wednesday's win in his hometown.


It's the first meeting of the season between the Pats and Oil Kings. The Oil Kings won all four meetings with Regina last season.


Victoria Royals vs Kelowna Rockets

Friday, Oct. 14 & Saturday, Oct. 15 at Victoria, B.C.


Shane McColgan and the Kelowna Rockets head to Vancouver Island for back-to-back contests versus Kevin Sundher and the Victoria Royals on Friday and Saturday.


The Rockets are coming off a 4-2 loss to the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday night for their third straight setback after opening the season with three straight wins. The Rockets have been outscored 14-5 over their last three outings. McColgan shares the team scoring lead with six points - all assists.


The Royals dropped a 5-1 decision to the Giants in Vancouver on Monday for their second straight loss. The Royals have played just three home games this season, winning two of those contests. Sundher leads all WHL players with 12 assists this season, and ranks fourth in the WHL with 15 points through his first nine games.


This weekend marks the first two meetings of the season between the B.C. Division rivals. Last season, the teams split eight encounters, with the road team winning on four occasions.
