10/26/11 Martin Marincin (Prince George) suspended four games for interference major and g.m. at Vancouver

I expected a bit more as the Orban hit was incidental and by all accounts Marincin laid a blind-side headshot on Ast, but at least its comparable to what the standard has been so far.

Far too short in comparison to the Orban suspension. One incidental contact and the other very blatant yet they warrant the same length in suspension? Boogaard'd

Steve Ewen of the Province has a good take on this:

http://blogs.theprovince.com/2011/10/28/did-marincin-deserve-more-than-four-games-suspended-you-be-the-judge (http://blogs.theprovince.com/2011/10/28/did-marincin-deserve-more-than-four-games-suspended-you-be-the-judge/)/ (http://blogs.theprovince.com/2011/10/28/did-marincin-deserve-more-than-four-games-suspended-you-be-the-judge/)

I was at that game but was not watching Ast at the time of the hit, and it was hard to see from the replay what actually happened. The high angle video clearly shows Marincin lining up Ast long before the puck was on its way, and the way Ast's glove and helmet pop into the air demonstrates the severity of the hit. I was undecided before, but now I am convinced that it was a malicious hit and deserving of maybe 10 games.

Too bad there is no footage of the Inglis or Orban hits as those may be the best comparables.

Someone told me that this isn't the first time Marincin has targeted the head so I looked it up, sure enough he was given a Match penalty and 3 games in last years World Juniors....

Similar situation, team getting their butts kicked and kid decides it's time to maliciously hurt someone, sure gives you some insight into his character, or lack thereof... 4 games is a joke.

wow I did not see this before but that's not even close to something being questionable .. not only is it a head shot it is a deliberate, blindside and targeted one (on a player who hasn't even had a whisper of the puck) - the very thing the league says they are trying to get out of the game.

Four games is a joke. The league needs to be consistent with these assessments. Not too impressed with Bourke using his glove to pummel a 15 year old player who is already on his knees on the ice, either.

There is footage of it...it just isn't posted. The Inglis elbow on Stahl was very deliberate. The footage of the Orban hit isn't very good because I believe the camera missed it live. They did show a quick replay of the hit but the replay wasn't very good either. Either way I watched that hit many times and there was no intent with that hit.

The conspirist in me suggests the same reason we can only get one young guy and 4th rounder when we unload some deadwood for more size up front right now, is the same reason a benign hit garners us a 4 game and an outright head hunt nets us several games due to injury and the perpetrator only gets 4 games. I wonder why we weren't even issued a 2 min delay of game because Ast didn't keep his head out of the way.
