Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Royals are proud to announce defenceman Keegan Kanzig has been named to Team Pacific for the 2012 World Under-17 Challenge in Windsor, Ontario.

Kanzig is one of 22 players chosen to play for Team Pacific, which combines players from Alberta and BC to play for the region. Kanzig is in his first Western Hockey League season for the Royals after the Chiliwack Bruins selected the Athabasca, Alberta product in the first round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. The 6’5”, 229 pound Kanzig has played 20 games for the Royals this season and has 36 penalty minutes. Kanzig has not missed any action for the Royals since September 30.

Last season, Royals’ forwards Steven Hodges and Brandon Magee helped Team Pacific to a bronze medal victory at the 2011 World Under-17 Challenge in Manitoba. Magee scored the overtime winner against Team Quebec in the bronze medal game. At the 2009 World Under-17 Challenge in Port Alberni, BC, Royal’s forward Kevin Sundher was part of Team Pacific’s roster that earned a silver medal.

Kanzig and Team Pacific will begin competition on December 29. The gold medal game for the 2012 World Under-17 Challenge is scheduled for January 4, 2012.
