ROCKETS SELECT

ALEXANDER EDLER

Kelowna, BC – The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce the selection of Alexander Edler of Sweden in today’s Canadian Hockey League Import Player Draft.

Edler, a native of Ostersund, Sweden is a 6’3” 197 lb. defenceman who played for Jamtland last year in the Swedish Division One Elite League.

“This guy is a big Offensive Defenceman with very good stick handling and passing skills. Alexander reads the play well and likes to jump up in the rush. He is a character guy and we are excited to have him. We needed to add an older Defenceman to our lineup and Alexander comes to us with experience having played Elite League hockey in Sweden.” Commented, Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton.

Edler was the Vancouver Canucks 2nd round choice, 91st overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

ROCKETS SELECT

THOMAS RAFFL

Kelowna, BC – The Kelowna Rockets are pleased to announce their second selection from today’s Canadian Hockey League Import Player Draft, Thomas Raffl of Austria.

Raffl, a native of Villach, Austria is a 6’4” 200 lb. winger who spent the 2004-2005 season with Heraklith VSV in the Austrian Division One Elite League. In 44 games played, Raffl combined for 7 goals and 12 assists.

“Thomas is a big forward who we have been told is a good player. We understand that he was paired up with a couple of NHL’ers as line mates last season and we feel he is the best player available. “Commented Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton.

“With the possibility that Lauris Darzins is still a candidate to go to Nashville we felt that we needed to cover our basis and since Lauris is an overage player we were able to select a third European and did so by acquiring Thomas.” Added the Rockets General Manager.

I have a feeling Edler is going to be a gem. Looking forward to seeing him play!

I had heard a rumor that we were going to pick up a Swedish defenseman but never knew it was the Canucks 2nd round pick. I also heard that it was thanks to a couple of ex-Rocket players that convinced Edler to come to Kelowna. He will be a ninteen year old and probly here for one year only. If he is that offensive, our coaching staff can teach him the North American defensive system pretty quick. Sounds like we have a winner!
