Saskatoon Blades goaltender Andrey Makarov has been named to Team Russia for the 2012 Canada-Russia challenge.

Makarov is one of three goalies named to Team Russia, with his former WJHC teammate Andrei Vasilevsky also being named to the club.

Blades forward Lukas Sutter was named to Team Canada for the event back in June prior to the NHL Draft.

Makarov was named as the Saskatoon Blades MVP this past season, his first in the WHL. By the end of the year, he had posted 29 wins, a 3.01 goals against average, a .913 save percentage, a pair of shutouts and 1640 saves. He also earned a silver medal at the World Junior Hockey Championships for Team Russia in early January.

Makarov was also invited to attend Florida Panthers development camp at the start of July.

Team Russia will meet Team Canada in four games for the event, with the schedule breaking down as follows:

Thursday, August 9 Time TBD Canada vs. Russia Yaroslavl, Russia

Friday, August 10 Time TBD Canada vs. Russia Yaroslavl, Russia

Monday, August 13 8 p.m. AT/7 p.m. ET Russia vs. Canada Halifax, N.S.
