Prince Albert SK – The Prince Albert Raiders announced that they have signed 19-year-old forward Austin Daae to a standard Western Hockey League contract.

Daae, a product of Estevan, Saskatchewan, has played in 21 games for his hometown Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this season, scoring 5 goals and adding 11 assists for 16 points.

The 6’, 194-pound left-winger spent 52 games with the Prince George Cougars last season, recording 2 goals and 4 assists along with 19 penalty minutes.

“With the number of players attending international tournaments, this provides Austin an opportunity to come and compete for a roster spot with our club,” said Raiders General Manager Bruno Campese.

Good pick-up for PA
I remember him being a scorer in Midget when he played for Moose Jaw, that didn't carry forward to the WHL, but could have been the team and/or the role he played on Prince George. Has some grit to his game.
He was a former Saskatoon prospect, and they dropped him, so it will be interesting to see how he gets up for the games against the Blades at the end of December & beginning of January.

Lets not get crazy he has 16 points in 21 games as a 19 yr old in SJHL and with his conditioning not at a WHL level,he will come in and be a warm body for a month while everyone is away.Daae will be back in Estevan by Jan 10th and play out his junior hockey there. He will probably never attend university so a free player for a month.

Harsh Assessment
I hope his presence pushes some of the underperformers to higher levels of performance.

So in 2010-2011 when the blades dropped Vandane, they had Siemens, thrower, zahn, dietz, Elliot, on D and also at the time they still had Acolatse. Where exactly did a 17 yr old Davis Vandane fit in?

Also last year Austin Daae was dropped from the blades he was then picked up by PG and had 6 pts in 52 games as an 18 yr old. Who on the Blades last year would you have dropped him for instead? Teams have to make room for players they draft and sign. 50 player protected list is small. Some guy have to get dropped and an 18 yr old 4 th liner is usually a casualty.

Good for Austin Daae for turning it around and wish him the best but come on saying Lorne have up on them is rediculous.

Daae was at camp with the Pats and was released way before to the blue and white game.

Granted but, with those stats, he's tied for the scoring lead on his team, the 2nd worst team in the SJHL (according to today's standings), and he has 7 points in his last 6 games...so he seems to have shaken off being cut by the Pats.

And he had 6 points in 5 games (as a rookie) last year before being called up to PG, for whatever that's worth.

As far as warm-bodies go, we could have chosen a lot worse (and did, regularly, only a few short years ago).

Here's hoping he takes this chance (likely his last) and becomes more than just a warm body. Good luck Austin!

Besides...at this point he's racing Knutsen for next year's 20yo forward spot. :)

Gives the kid a last crack at the dub. Also gives us a 4 th liner who shouldn't make bad rookie errors. Essentially a warm body. If daae play full of piss and vinegar he could remind you of herle.

Is Taylor Fisher still on our list? He is having a pretty good year with the Winnipeg Wild in the Manitoba Midget AAA . Top scoring defenceman and big kid.

No the Raiders dropped the ball on this kid. They drafted him knowing he was over weight and didnt even give him a year to drop it. 19 points in 20 games. Plus leads his team in plus minus. On a side note does anyone else who watched the game see that Mahura has gotten to be a better player then Santucci ?

Daae might be a bit bigger but from what l have seem i think santucci is more gritty and alot faster and really not had the chances to show more not like daae was given the chance to play

I agree that Santucci is a bit grittier and faster, but Daae is a much more well-rounded player. He may not put up many points, but he's been fairly solid and he's really quite good in the offensive zone protecting and cycling the puck. Santucci on the other hand, hasn't put up anything noteworthy for offense and has frankly been a liability, putting us down a man at key moments in games with stupid, undisciplined penalties. I think Steve and Bruno are right to keep playing Daae over Santucci.

I watched the game mahura really didnt do much but could be a better fit than vanstone which has done nothing and santucci they will need his energy and grit down the stretch
