I cant believe the Pats dont play here until the 29th. Hope you have a full line up dont want any excuses :) I'd like to see the rivalry pick up a bit but with the new rules it may not happen. Bighat youre right about the fact that even our most hated rivals dont go there. Thats because they have something some Blade fans dont class. I didnt think Lang would sit still after those losses and he paid next to nothing for the guys he got.

Lang is a good gm he will put this franchise back near the top. My cousin and my ball teammates played on those teams back then and I don't like anyone making fun or disrespecting what they went through.

purchased tonites game on the webcast, very chippy game only crappy thing is gotta listen to the hitmens terrible radio guys...wow i thought our guys were bad but these guys take the cake on that.

ooutside of the very 1st shifts where the hitmen were more ready to play then us we have played not too bad since. we have been our worst emeny for the most part with some bad turnovers from just not slowing the game down & rushing things too much.

williams gets into his 1st whl fight (if my memory serves me correct) he completely laid out padakin with a clean shoulder right into the chest....i didnt think williams knew how to hit as he never seems to put his body in the way of someone at home, then in normal fashion a guy jumps williams after a clean check. i get that u want to stand up for ur teammates but after a clean check i dont believe a guy should have to fight for that reason & yes same thing goes when a pats player get light up from a clean check the guy shouldnt have to fight cuz of it unless its the guy wanting to fight who just got hit.

we had this game handed to us on a platter with all the PPs (all but 2 were well deserved penalties) but when u put up a beauty 0 for 10 on the PP ur not going to win many games heck we hardly generated any shots on the PP either to gain momentuem. When u have limited offense in the lineup u need to put pucks on net instead of a never ending cycle game. One day maybe we will learn there is never a bad shot to take on net, making the goalie to go down & up all game long tires them out eventually & will create mistakes especially on a young keeper like shields.

outside of the 1st shift of the game we played a pretty good game, these vetern teams know to put pucks on net when u get a chance instead of making that extra move or pass. we pass up alot of shots which is sad to see.

Well ordered the game again tonite as part of my 5 game pack from whl webcast...hopefully we at least score a goal tonite as being shutout in 3 of ur past 4 is not enjoyable as a fan.

I will say though at least we are playing more as a team the past 2 games & actually generating some offensive attack, we lack shots tho. We'd rather make an extra pass or chip it back into the corner for another cycle instead of directing pucks towards the net. When are are missing 2 of ur more offensive guys (Stevenson & Stephenson) pretty goals should not be on the menu. The only guys who seem to put pucks towards the net on a regular basis are Klimchuk & Schiedl, i could also throw in McCoy now as well after watching him in his 1st 2 games as a member of the Regina Pats.

I hope tonites game Vasko is inserted into the lineup, very curious to watch his game now. I noticed him abit when RD came into town on Jordan Eberle Night but not enough to actually rate his game.

Does the edmonton camera guy not realise that he is zoomed in just a tad too close? its really hard to see the play besides for the puck carrier.

Now to the 1st period...

For starters Brady Reagan is called up for tonites game, which is nice to see to get him a taste of WHL action before his big jump for next season. Vasko still not playing yet, maybe tuesday nite he will get into his 1st action as a Regina Pat.

We are generating some offense which is nice to see, the Oil Kings are missing some key pieces to there roster due to WJ commitments in Reinhart, Musil & Gernat (all Dmen) hopefully the Pats can keep it up & wear down a younger D group even with an elite goalie in net for them.

starting to think, after all these blowouts, that perhaps we should be making the transition into 'next year' mode. Barring any big turn around, we should move at least two of our 20s, since all of which except for maybe theriau are top players in this league...and maybe 1+ of our '93 forwards poised to return next year...if at least to give a guy like brooks more meaningful ice. Fenske is a 20 next year, so thats two spots for four guys.

As much as I'd love to see Hewitt getting moved at trade deadline the odds of that happening isnt in Hewitt's favour. Every playoff type team has a starting goalie already & wont trade for a 20yr old to make the guy a backup who has got them to the place there at already & no way will they sacrafice a 20yr old on there roster for a 20yr old back up goalie. Hewitt is here for the remaining of the year, its a good thing for the Pats as he can continue teaching Sacher & give Sacher starts where he isnt set up for failure (getting lite up)

Scheidl has a big chance of getting moved, but with that said i dont think Lang will move him unless the price is fair, he wont move him just for the sake of moving him as Scheidl is more valuable to the Pats team then that especially knowing that Stevenson & Stephenson are coming back after xmas which will give us a chance to squeeze into the playoffs (were only 4pts out of 8th with adding 2 key players to our lineup for no price).

Jobke return after xmas at some point may be a risk for teams as well due to his injury. Lang said last week that the team is still unsure when Jobke will be able to hold a stick effectively. Also who knows if he will have side effects in the weeks to come after he returns, like any injury there is always the risk of side effects especially in the hands.

Therieu i dont think has given his all to the Pats as to how he normally plays. Which really i dont blame him either, he has no certianty that he will still have a WHL job after Jobke's return/baring a trade to open a spot up.

more meaningful ice is great dont get me wrong but putting a young player in a role which is setup for failure is never a good thing either, cuz then he starts playing scared & he never builds any confidence...Brooks has played scared abit during all these key injuries, i dont see the point in having him play the rest of the year after trade deadline like that. It can lead to a major injury to him as well, theres a reason why coaches tend to match lines with 16yr olds on them.

Looking at our possible 20yr olds for next season do we move any of the 19yr olds for a playoff type team for depth?

Ouellette
Mayor
Rossingol
Vasko
Sylvegard
Stevenson
Fenske

I personally feel that our 20yr olds next season should be Ouellette, Mayor & Stevenson. I dont feel that Fenske brings enough to our backend for next season with the youth movement we have went with this year. Fenske would be a good addition for a playoff type team this year. I dont expect either euro to be brought back next season to compete for a spot unless Vasko proves he can score with a bigger role on the Pats from now until the end of the year.

But with all that said this season hasnt even hit xmas break yet & i still wanna be able to watch some what competive hockey & selling the farm for ice time for young kids. I think us pats fans have watched enough crappy hockey these past 5yrs. Keeping these guys around will not hamper the development of the younger kids on this team, I also dont want to see guys called up like Gay/McLean just to keep him around longer then they deserve.

Apart of preparing for the future is not only ensuring younger players get better quantity of/quality ice time, but to make sure they are well looked after. Its simply protecting your investment.

I dont see players being scared being a problem. Its not like the plan is to have the only thing between a power forward from Adam Brooks is a bunch of rossignols. If we deal away any grit, we will get equivilent or more coming back to keep other teams honest and to see younger players through the learning process. Neigum a few years ago was perfect for this role.

They will be well looked after, which mean that moving Fenske certainly isnt in our interests. Our defence next year could use the experience and grit regardless, and it doesnt hurt that he has made strides in his game over the last year. I think he gets a spot by default, leaving two spots for four forwards(dont see either euros returning or Rossignol). Camp is a good time to decide who gets the spots, unless we get a bounty on one of them during the upcoming deadline(rather than a decent pick next year; only to maximize asset value).

As far as Hewitt goes, I think his departure will moreso depend on Sacher's progress, not what the market dictates. If Sacher needs the ice, he gets it. If Sacher isnt ready, who better than Hewitt to bear the load. I could see teams being interested in getting him considering it could be a bargain(only two west teams miss playoffs, borderline team might want something to widen the gap). His numbers are awful right now, not that teams dont know what he can do. Regardless, Lang has to do what is best for the team's future, and the reality is that Hewitt is an expiring asset.

And I say shop Scheidl and Jobke around. As top players in this league, there should be lineups for both but at the same time, our hands are not being forced. Jobke would vastly improve our D and Scheidl does it all and plays well with Klimchuk. I doubt it will be tough to get assets in exchange.

I believe the only 20yr olds being dealt will be Scheidl & Jobke, Hewitt is not going to bring in any sort of a blow away deal. We would of gotten a better deal for him in the offseason then at trade deadline just due to his age. Only way Hewitt brings in a great deal for us is between now & trade deadline if a contending teams goalie goes down long term....20yr olds are too important in this league to have 1 taking up a spot backing up there already established #1 tender.

Lets also keep in mind too that we have yet to play a single game this year with our entire lineup, & that will change shortly after xmas break. Our Hockey Operations dont even know what our team is capable of doing since they havent played a single game together all year long. Bringing in Henry has really improved our defense alot, plus he is still fairly young as a 18yr old.

Lang isnt ready to give up on this season, having listened to him in the past he knows how valuable playoff experience is for a young team even if it is out in 4 games. Give this team a taste of playoff hockey would be the best thing for the group in moving forward in the yrs to come. Trading away guys just for th eyoung guys can be dominated (like what happened for the past month or so) is not the way u develop prospects....it sets them up for failure which is extremely tough on confidence.

I really see Edmonton trading for Scheidl seeing they have 20 opening but for what is the question

Kamloops only has 2 as well since they released Inglis, & knowing Lang he will want a roster player who is 17 or 16.... Being in the top 5 for 20yr old scoring on a offensively challenged pats team (due to so many injuries) should be worth a younger roster player...kind of like the Maxwell deal last year.

Im going to assume Scheidl is on the top of alot of teams lists when it comes to possibly upgrading there 20yr old situation, he is prob part of the top 3 out there who are not in a playoff position....other possible guys are Kirsch, Leach, Oslanski, Harrison (who is really under acheiving this year).

Best thing that could happen for Lang is he gets a few teams seriously interested in Schiedl & gets into a bidding war for him....Lang could easily play mind games with other GMs as well saying he is considering a better offer elsewhere & they need to sweeten the pot abit....He will definately become 1 of the hotter commidities this year at trade deadline.

Out of the 20yr olds who have been traded this year, the best deal out there has been what Saskatoon paid for Kambeitz & Schiedl brings alot more then Kambietz does especially for overall skill & speed....the rebels for a quality young player in Stockl along with a 3rd rd pick so expect the same type of trade for Schiedl

Totally agree but what would you rather get for a roster player a dman or a forward ? say if you trade scheidl to Edmonton would you want a dman like Sauter or a forward like Benson and what draft pick i guess a second rounder would be valid

Scheidl will be traded to kamloops they need a second line and Hewitt or jobke will be traded to Edmonton. We will get a couple picks and 1 prospect. I like fenske as a 20 as well he's playing his best hockey and jumping into the play a little. Don't be surprised if Stevenson gets traded either he would be a good fit with pa or swift.

Edmonton of Kamloops are the only teams i could see taking on a 20yr old goalie since they dont have to give up a 20yr old skater to get a guy like Hewitt.

As for Stevenson i could see him being moved only if a 17yr old WHL ready kid is coming the other way, otherwise i dont see if happening. As he would be a key part of the leadership next season plus a guy who will standup for any teammate which we lack.

Either way which ever happens with trades (or if they dont happen) i will be happy & trust Lang in what he is trying to do here. Only guy i really see being moved forsure is Scheidl.

nice to see the pats close out the 1st 1/2 of the year with a big win in lethbridge.... forgot about this game tonite til the start of the 3rd so i still purchased the game to watch the 3rd alone since the games online are dirt cheap to begin with... hard for me to put a value on 1 period when i bet $25-$50/hand at the casino playing blackjack a few times a week.

anyways from what i saw the pats seemed to have played a good game Sacher made some quality saves in the 3rd but also gave the puck away on the Canes 2nd goal to tie the game late....but good ole' Klimchuk/Scheidl came thru like they have all season long & got the winner with 30ish secs left in the game nice to see a win after a decent road trip....yes we went 1-2 but we deserved to win in CGY just our PP put up a big donut..

anyways merry xmas to the pats & hope the 2nd 1/2 is much better then the 1st 1/2
