Thanks for charting that Bruin.
8 picks in the first 3 rounds. That is great start to a rebuild. Let's hope they pick well.

I believe that the 3rd round pick from the Rockets is in 2014 (not 2013).

That is correct.

Based on my research for the 2013 draft the Giants have two first round picks, three second round picks and two third round picks. It's hard to say though with absolute certainty as I've seen/read conflicting reports.

We also now have top euro pick do we not? Maybe we'll actually get a skilled and rugged euro that rare commodity - thanks for posting the pick list NWB

Cool! Thanks for the list. Did we get a first rounder for burns? Next year or year after?

The Giants have by far the most picks in the first few rounds of the 2013-14 drafts. Fourteen picks in the first 3 rounds, 4 of which are first round picks. This should set you up for a long time down the road.

2013 Vancouver 2 3 2 0 1 0 1 0 1 1
2014 Vancouver 2 1 4 0 0 0 2 1 1 1
TOTAL...............4 4 6 0 1 0 3 1 2 2

Your 14 picks in the 1st 3 rounds is as many draft picks as Saskatoon has in total in all 10 rounds of both drafts. Worse yet for the Blades, 9 of their picks are in the last 5 rounds.

Thanks to Alan @ Small Thoughts at Large for compiling the raw draft totals.

I am not the most confident in bonners ability to draft. Just a hunch. I think he does better with trades?

Hopefully he trades a few picks for some established goal scorers or on the verge of breaking out.

But Saskatoon did this because of the hosting of the cup didnt they? Had to make sure they put a competitive team as the hosts.

I never did understand why a host city gets the free ride. I think there are enough fans that they dont need to do this anymore.

Not just saskatoon but any host city.

Does anybody know when trades are allowed? It seems a bit strange that the draft is held in the middle of the Final.

Haha very good point. That is kinda strange. I think the OHL already had their draft last week. Which is strange as well.

Good question.
