It is with great sadness the Regina Pats learned of the passing of alumni Cole Hamblin after his battle with cancer. Cole played eight games with the Pats in the 2012-13 as a defenceman, recording a goal and an assist in his time with the club.
The St. Adolphe, MB native went on to play for the Winnipeg Blues, Portage Terriers and Virden Oil Capitals in the MJHL before moving on to play at Guelph University this season.
On September 22nd, Cole was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg and diagnosed with a rare cancer called mucoepidermoid carcinoma.
The diagnosis prompted a massive outpouring of support from friends, family, fans, former teams and teammates. An online funding campaign to support Cole and his family raised nearly $70,000 in just 28 days.
The Regina Pats offer their deepest condolences to Cole’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
