BEST PLAYER

Sam Steel has spent time quarterbacking the first-unit power play as a forward. Nolan Patrick has scored 28 goals in 53 games. These are two sublime 16-year-olds. Provorov, 17, must be doing something right. Oh, yeah. He leads all rookies in scoring and is top five among all blue-liners.

Others receiving votes: Sam Steel REG (65); Nolan Patrick BDN (46); Stuart Skinner LET (21); Jake Bean CGY (6); Brett Howden MJ (2).

BEST FACEOFF MAN

BEST DEFENSIVE DEFENCEMAN

Dillon Heatherington SC (55) Heatherington anchored the shutdown pairing for Canada in Montreal and Toronto. He edged out Tyler Lewington, 20, who signed his entrylevel deal with Washington earlier this month, on the strength of more first-place votes.

Others receiving votes: Tyler Lewington MH (47); Colby Williams REG (28); Keegan Kanzig CGY (19); Kyle Burroughs MH (14); Ivan Provorov BDN (10); Travis Sanheim CGY (6); Ty Stanton MH, Colton Waltz BDN (4); Rinat Valiev KTY, Michael Zipp CGY (3); Brett Lernout SC (2); Brett Cote RD, Nelson Nogier RD (1)

BEST DEFENSIVE FORWARD

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

Tim McGauley BDN Jake DeBrusk SC (30)

McGauley cracked the 100-point barrier after recording 60 last season. With 39 goals and 74 points, De-Brusk is a candidate to be selected in the first-round of the upcoming NHL draft. BEST PRO PROSPECT (DRAFTED)

Sam Reinhart KTY (86) - on all 22 ballots

Given that the youngest Reinhart was picked second overall by Buffalo last year, and appeared in nine NHL games for the Sabres this season, this selection was hardly shocking.

GABRIELLE
There are times I sit and watch and I think to myself "Gabrielle shut up already and play" so I can only imagine what the opposition is feeling when the trash talk is directed towards them. Paddock knew exactly what he was getting when he traded Klimchuk straight up for Gabrielle, Jesse's trash talk im sure is going to hit another level come playoff time and he could very well become a difference maker in our 1st round match up against Swift Current (or possibly MJ which the odds are against them).

WILLIAMS
Interesting to see his peers and other coaches around the league give Colby votes for the 3rd best defensive defensemen in our conference. His +44 is hard to ignore which puts him 1st among defensemen in the entire WHL, Cole Martin of the Rockets is 2nd with a +42.....Im sure Colby gets a NHL summer camp invite this year or a rookie camp invite before NHL main camps open just like Christoffer (WSH) and Hunt (CAR) got last year. A lot of people thought his numbers were only good cause of Burroughs as his defensive partner but I think he has proved all those critics wrong as his numbers have kept improving and the same cant be said for Burroughs on what is suppose to be a much stronger MH team.

PADAKIN
He got some very high votes in different categories. He was 3rd in the Best PK guy as well as 3rd in the Best Defensive Forward.

WAPPLE
Wapple was voted 3rd best goalie in the Eastern Conference which speaks volumes of what he means to our Pats. He like any goalie will play a big role in how far we go in the playoffs.

OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT PLAYERS

POINT
He gets my vote for best player in our conference as well, when you put his size and the one line team that MJ is he is that player that makes everyone around him better. He carries MJ on his back game in and game out, I also highly doubt Rodewald would have the production he has without Point.

JARRY
He could be the only reason why the Oil Kings may have a chance against the WKs in the 1st round this year. Jarry has it in him to win an entire series no matter the offensive power the WKs have. The Oil Kings are a well coached team who work hard if Jarry gives them the goaltending they expect it could be a long series for the WKs cause of Jarry.

PROVOROV
The WKs sure lucked out with this pick. Picked 30th overall yes that means 29 other teams could of selected him in the CHL. He is hands down the best rookie in the entire WHL. I for one don't like the best rookie award to go to a player that is not 16yrs old but it is what it is and regardless of age Ivan is the best rookie.

BEST 16 YEAR OLD
If you just take the numbers from the best rookie vote and use those the best 16 year olds go in this order.
Steel
Patrick
Skinner
Bean
Howden
And its hard to argue with those no matter what the order may be, it truly was 1 amazing draft class.

HUNT & BROOKS
Were both tied for 3rd as Most Improved player only behind McGauley & DeBrusk which are pretty hard to argue with the numbers those players put up this year compared to last year.

Thanks for sharing the results, I love when the players and coaches rate the league like this. Not too many surprises, but interesting nonetheless. I think I'd pick Skinner as my ROTY because I refuse to vote for anyone who isn't a 16 year old haha!

WILLIAMS
Interesting to see his peers and other coaches around the league give Colby votes for the 3rd best defensive defensemen in our conference.

Hard to argue with this. One of the biggest winners in the Regina trade deadline was Williams. Burroughs getting all the credit all this time and now we see just how good Williams is. He is getting more and more comfortable (and dangerous) joining the rush. He could be a 50-60 point guy next season AND run away with the +/-. Glad to see he also got the Pats MVP award. So well deserving a what a tremendous young man.

This is the wildcard in the WHL Playoffs this year. The only thing I would add is that Jarry is not the only reason. Having Sautner, Orbin, Mayo and Irving as a top 4 in front of him and the most defensive group of forwards in the WHL addsa few more quality reasons why there just might be a "chance". Not to mention, until Brandon actually gets a game or two on them in the playoffs, the Oil Kings are still boss in this series. Some teams have other teams numbers.

In my opinion, hands down the BEST player on a very stacked Wheat Kings team.

BEST 16 YEAR OLD
If you just take the numbers from the best rookie vote and use those the best 16 year olds go in this order.
Steel
Patrick

I think for their careers
Patrick 20 ES goals in 67 games
Steel 9 ES goals in 68 games
I will try and find that website that does all the stats based on age and TOI and goals per 60 minute and see how they have the 98's ranked for production this season
Patrick got Brandon's ROTY award, 30 goals in under 60 games was great, but I'd still give the conference ROTY award to Skinner if I take my WK coloured glasses off
No ROTY votes for David Quenneville hey? Clague didn't get any either, only played 20 games. The last 2 games he's been winger bc Brandon has so many forwards out, but even with the lacy of games and playing out of position he's got 13 points in 20 games, so if he can get and stay healthy I look for him to have a breakout year next season, he has to get a little more physical though.

It's funny though, Steel and Patrick were highly regarded prospects out of the best draft in a decade and struggled in their 15 year old call ups ( no wonder, the league and playoffs are so hard for 15's to compete in), but Leschysin and Mattheos are guys out of the worst regarded bantam draft in a decade and have actually had some success so far, those guys don't project to be as good as Patrick and steel, but lots to be said about needing the right opportunity as well as having the skill set!!

Found that stats site that works out even strength points per 60 minuted played. So I suppose it's only as good as the TOI and I don't know how they estimate that, and for guys with fewer games it's probably more inaccurate
Anyway, before sorting for a min number of games played, the leader in the dub for ES points per 60 mins played is none other than Erik Gardner at 5.5 points per 60 minutes!
Out of the four top 98's it goes
Nolan Patrick 2.44, sixth on team
Brett howden 1.67, sixth on team
Sam steel 1.63, tenth on team
Tyler benson 1.4, third on team

Other significant 98's are
K Yamamoto 1.79, first on team
Tanner kaspick 2.65, fourth on team

For min 30 games it's hawryluk at #1 followed by draistl
Hawryluk 3.05

I looked up Gabrielle as we all like him, he's high
Gabrielle 2.35

And for fun, the 99's, too low a games played to be accurate IMO
Mattheos, 3.33
Leschyshin 0.65

The top defence man from 98 are
Jake bean 1.67, first dman on team
Kale claque 1.45, first dman on team
D quenneville 0.70, seventh dman on team

It's just stats, and I don't think it proves who's better than who, only time will tell who's the best dub and NHL'r, but it is interesting to look at, and shows both Bdn and Reg have some awesome young talent
