Anyone have any thoughts on this? Will he be able to translate his skill to coaching ?

I dont think he has coached anything in his life - Should be very interesting.

There can be no doubt he will have the players respect, and that he knows how the game is played.

Its a wait and see at this point.

he should be a good coach. but if he isnt you can guarentee that everyone will give 100% with him behind the bench. His respect might be more important then his coaching skill

I think he has rocks in his head, coaches put in long days, going over film and crap. Especially this year when you have a Olympics and a game almost every second day, why would he want to put in that much time?

I do think he will be a good coach, but I would of stayed in the press box.

I think it is a big mistake.

On-ice hockey skills does not equal being able to coach others.

Sure, if the new rules hold out, getting the greatest goal and points leader of the NHL trying to teach others how to play offensively, creatively, etc, will make watching the Coyotes a must.

But Gretzky will still need some great assistants, even then.
