Aldred Undergoes Successful Emergency Surgery
August 24, 2005
Kennewick, WA – Tri-City Americans center Alex Aldred underwent emergency surgery last night in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta to have his spleen removed. The 19-year-old veteran is expected to make a full recovery within four-to-six weeks.

The injury occurred as he prepared for the upcoming WHL campaign while attending a conditioning camp in Edmonton. Aldred was fortunate enough to realize something was wrong. His father immediately took him to the hospital where the seriousness of the injury was discovered.

“Alex is very excited about becoming an American,” commented his father, Steve Aldred. “He was getting prepared to join the club when the injury occurred. He’s very strong in spirits and is looking forward to a speedy and full recovery.”

Aldred was acquired from the Portland Winter Hawks on May, 6th when the Americans swapped their fourth round pick in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft for Portland’s fifth round pick. Tri-City used the selection to pick 15-year-old goaltender Kyle Birch.

Brutal, he's pretty lucky he didn't ignor it like alot of teenagers do. I guess that will put him out until mid October?
