Former Brandon Wheat Kings' coach Mike Kelly has been named the new assistant coach of the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose.

Kelly brings to the Moose seventeen years of coaching experience. He was most recently the head coach at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he led the Panthers to an 11-11-6 record in 28 games and a playoff berth in the Atlantic Conference of CIS Hockey in his one season as their head coach.

Previously, he was coach of the Wheat Kings in 2003-04 as well as general manager and head coach of the North Bay Centennials of the Ontario Hockey League from 1998-2002. Before that, he served as head coach of the University of New Brunswick men's hockey team.

In the past four years, he has been responsible for an impressive list of Hockey Canada coaching assignments including head coach to the gold medal winning under-18 Canadian team at the World Championships in 2003.

During his one year in Brandon, Kelly posted a 22-32-9-3 record.

Yeah me too.I didn't like his style or his motivational techniques. He was honestly one brutal coach. How do you take a team with probably the most talent in the league and place them 10 games under .500?
