CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League has announced that a shoot-out will be held at the end of each game during the Everett pre-season tournament that begins on Friday, September 2nd.

The decision to use the shoot-out was made for the purpose of being an evaluation for all parties concerned, including coaches, players, officials, scorekeepers, timekeepers and public address announcers.

The shoot-out will be held strictly for evaluative purposes regardless of the game's final score at the end of regulation time. The final score of games decided in regulation time will be official for tournament and pre-season standings, regardless of the outcome of the shoot-out.

However, if a tournament game is tied at the end of regulation, the teams will immediately commence with the shoot-out to decide the outcome, and the normal five-minute overtime period will not be held.

Six teams will compete in the Everett tournament including the host Silvertips, Kamloops Blazers, Portland Winter Hawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs, and Vancouver Giants.

Other WHL teams playing exhibition games on the Labor Day weekend may also employ a shoot-out for evaluative purposes.

Should make things intresting. I hope they actually need them more than they do this to show off. Will be a great tourney, some pretty big match ups in their. I do like that the first game is Seattle Portland, should be rough.

Good idea to add this into all the games so teams can see where they are at with this new aspect of the game.
