All sessions will be free and open to the public to attend, but the special evening sessions from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, titled “Main Camp Ice”, will probably be more fan friendly to watch. Player information, line-up and jersey numbers will be made available to fans who attend the evening sessions. Click here for more main camp info.

This is the second straight season the Hawks have held training camp in Memorial Coliseum after conducting camp in Kimberley, British Columbia since the late 1980’s.

“We want to thank Global Spectrum and Arena Management for allowing us to have camp in the Coliseum again this season,” said Winter Hawk Director of Operations, Kelley Robinett. “Last year, we had hundreds of fans that came to enjoy training camp, especially during the evening sessions. We are happy to announce there will be no charge for parking and admission is free for all sessions. Fans need to enter at the lower level of the Coliseum, through the doors adjacent to the Winter Hawks’ business and ticket offices.”

The Hawks will play five pre-season games, all out of town this season. The Hawks open play at the Everett Events Center tournament Labor Day Weekend Friday, September 2nd against Seattle at 11:30 a.m.; Saturday, September 3rd against Kamloops at 11:30 a.m.; and Sunday, September 4th against Everett at 7:00 p.m. Portland will also participate at the Tri-Cities tournament at Three Rivers Coliseum in Kennewick, Washington the next weekend with games on Friday, September 9th against Seattle at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 10th against Vancouver at 3:00 p.m.

Training camp closes Thursday morning, September 1st, with players who survive the roster cut practicing from 9:45-11:00 a.m. There could be other players who do not earn a spot on the roster, but, instead, are put on the club’s 50-player protected list as a result of their performance in camp. Some players could also be away attending NHL camps during part of this time. The Hawks have six players that have been drafted by NHL teams listed on their Training Camp Roster: Brandon Dubinsky (NY Rangers), Michael Funk (Buffalo Sabres), Brendan Mikkelson (Mighty Ducks of Anaheim), Michael Sauer (NY Rangers), Kyle Bailey (Minnesota Wild) and European rookies Jannik Hansen from Denmark (Vancouver Canucks) and Stanislav Balan from the Czech Republic (Nashville Predators). Balan has recently changed agents and has indicated his intentions to attend Training Camp.

The Hawks finished second in the five-team U.S. Division with a (35-27-5-5) record in 2004-05. For the first time in franchise history, the Hawks rallied from a 3-1 deficit in a playoff series to force Game 7 against the Everett Silvertips last season, but lost 3-2 in the Rose Garden on April 5th. Portland has had winning seasons in four of its last five years, the franchise’s most consistent winning run since opening its history with seven winning seasons from 1976-83. But, the Hawks have been eliminated in four straight first round playoff series, three of which went all the way to Game 7, since winning the Western Conference playoff championship in 2001. That was the franchise’s 22nd championship banner in 29 years, second in WHL history.

The Hawks open the regular season Friday, September 24th in Kelowna (kull-OWN-uh) and open their home schedule on Saturday, October 1st against the defending Western Hockey League champion Kelowna Rockets at 7:00 in the Rose Garden with a special 30th anniversary kickoff pre-game presentation
