Nashville, Tenn. (September 9, 2005) – Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired center Kris Beech from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional NHL Entry Draft selection.

Beech, 24 (2/5/81), led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) in assists (48), plus-minus rating (+17) and playoff scoring (4g-6a-10pts in 11 games) in 2004-05, and finished second on the club in points (14g-48a-62pts) and penalty minutes (146).

The 6-2, 208-pound native of Salmon Arm, B.C. has appeared in 99 NHL games over four seasons (2000-2004) with Washington and Pittsburgh. He spent the entire 2001-02 campaign in the NHL with the Penguins and notched career-highs in games played (79), goals (10), assists (15) and points (25).

Originally the Washington Capitals’ first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Beech was also part of the package (along with Michal Sivek, Ross Lupaschek and future considerations) that the Caps dealt to Pittsburgh for Jaromir Jagr and Frantisek Kucera on July 11, 2001.

I remember when I lived in Maryland and this kid was suppose to be the next big thing for the Caps....well-- so was Nolan Baumgartner, but the Caps obviously knew they couldn't draft well.

Then you heard he got traded to Pittsburgh and scouts were licking their lips with him....then now he's moving again.
