ROSTER BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE
Eight players assigned, including top prospects O'Marra and Comeau

The Islanders have sent 2005 first round pick Ryan O'Marra and 2004 second round pick Blake Comeau to their respective Canadian junior clubs while also assigning six players to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League: goaltender Chris Madden, forwards Luciano Aquino and Masi Marjamaki and defensemen Vince Macri, Jody Robinson and Paul Flache.

"O'Marra was very impressive for a kid at his first NHL camp, and Comeau seems to get better every day," said Islanders head coach Steve Stirling before tonight's exhibition game in New Jersey. "We're very excited about their potential to have an impact on our lineup in the near future.

"It has been a good training camp so far," Stirling continued. "The players we have assigned to junior or the AHL have all played well. It's just time for us to get to a much smaller roster so we can use the final week to prepare for our season opener."

It is expected that the Islanders' roster to be near the NHL limit of 23 when they play in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Look for the Islanders to have two goaltenders, eight defensemen and between 13-15 forwards on their roster by Monday night.

Sounds like Blake had a good camp, and Coach Stirling saying Comeau gets better every day. I hope he continues this effort with the Rockets then World Juniors.
