Wacey Rabbit, one of the smallest players on the Saskatoon Blades, but always one of the hardest working, has been named captain of this year's squad.

Rabbit, in his fourth year, "gives everything he's got every shift," Blades GM-coach Lorne Molleken said Tuesday, after disclosing his letter-men during a booster club function.

The 19-year-old will be joined by assistants Joe Barnes, Devin Setoguchi and Justin McCrae.

"He's a tremendous role model," Molleken said of Rabbit, from the Blood Reserve south of Calgary. "He's not very vocal on the ice but he has all the abilities to be a good leader. He's respected by his teammates."

Rabbit, 5-foot-10 and drafted by the Boston Bruins in this past summer's NHL entry draft, has 52 goals and 77 assists in his three years with Saskatoon. He follows in the footsteps of Mike Green, who graduated this past year.

The Blades practiced Tuesday in Martensville and, as he did Monday, Molleken spent the majority of his time working on defensive demands, both from his defencemen and his backchecking forwards. The Blades also sent 18-year-old LW Joseph Cook to the La Ronge Ice Wolves, reducing their roster to 15 forwards, seven defence and three goalies.
