It was announced after the Pats 2-1 win over Swift Current on Wednesday the the Pats have picked up Denis Tolpeko off waivers (Seattle apparently receives a draft pick as compensation).

The move fills the Pats final Import spot as well as an overage spot (the Pats have 4 now... depending on Mike Wall's situation). The 20 year-old forward had 13 goals 18 assists for 31 points in 54 games last season in Seattle.

It was mentioned that he will step right into the lineup when he arrives and play alongside Petr Kalus and a centre that has yet to be determined (maybe Kyle Ross).

Good pick-up for Regina.

PATS TRADE FOR A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD EUROPEAN
Created: Sep 29, 2005

Regina SK ---- Late Wednesday evening the Regina Pats finalized a trade with the Seattle Thunderbirds, acquiring twenty-year-old Russian forward Denis Tolpeko, in exchange for an eighth round selection in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft and a waiver fee.

Last season in Seattle, Tolpeko had thirty-one points and fourty-eight penalty minutes in fifty-four games with the T-Birds.

"We had room for an import and a twenty-year-old in our line-up and we feel that Denis will add some offence to our line-up," commented Pats GM Brent Parker

Tolpeko, a 6'1" 190lb product of Moscow, is expected to join the Pats next week.

To make room for Tolpeko, the Pats dropped Anze Kopitar from their protected list. Kopitar elected to return to the Swedish league last week after attending training camp with the LA Kings, who drafted him eleventh overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
