The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Garth Murray from the New York Rangers on Friday in exchange for forward Marcel Hossa.

Murray had four goals and five assists last season with Hartford of the AHL. He played 20 career NHL games, with the Rangers during the 2003-04 season, and had one goal and 24 penalty minutes. He has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.

Hossa, whose older brother Marian was traded by Ottawa to Atlanta during the off-season for fellow all-star Dany Heatley, has 10 goals and nine assists in 59 career NHL games - all with Montreal.

In five exhibition games this year, Marcel Hossa has two goals and four assists.

During last season's lockout, Hossa skated in 48 games with Mora IK of the Swedish Elite League. He had 18 goals, tying Marian for second on the club, and set up six others.

Hossa had 18 goals and 22 assists during the 2003-04 AHL season with Hamilton. He was chosen by Montreal with the 16th overall pick in the 200 draft.
