On Friday night Petr Kalus showed fans at the Brandt Centre why he was the third overall pick in the CHL Import Draft this summer, and why the Boston Bruins, who picked him in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft had him suit up in two pre-season games last week.

To say Kalus gave the Pats an offensive spark on Friday night would be an understatement. The Czech forward posted a six-point night, including a hat-trick to give the Pats a 6 - 2 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. Kalus scored two power-play goals, including the game winner and then sent the Brandt Centre faithful into a frenzy scoring on a penalty-shot awarded by referee Adam Byblow midway through the third period.

Twenty-year-old Matt Robinson had a goal while Garrett Festerling added a pair of goals and an assist. The Pats six goals outburst was more than they had scored in their three previous games combined.

Alex Poulter & Ashton Rome provided the scoring for the Rebels.

David Reekie earned his second win of the season making twenty-two saves. Red Deer's rookie netminder, James Reimer, made twenty-eight saves in defeat.

There were four fights in the game, with Pats tough-guy Shane Halifax receiving a game misconduct for his involvement in three.

Assistant captain Kyle Ross recorded his first point of the season assisting on Festerling's second goal which rounded out the scoring.

The news for the Pats wasn't completely good as nineteen-year-old defenceman Andy Schenn broke his pinkie finger during a first period fight with Regina native Garrett Klotz. Schenn is expected to be out of the line-up for 4 - 6 weeks.

Was very nice to see the Pats do awsome last night. And Kalus sure showed what he can do. The Schenn/Klotz fight was the best of the four, with both players throwing punches and landing them square to each others face. But Klotz laid one on Schenn that took him down.
