Lladislav Scurko
From the Seattle Times
Height: 6 feet 1
Weight: 198 pounds
Age: 19
Hometown: Spissa Nova Ves, Slovakia
Number: 25.
Key stat: Led the Thunderbirds with five goals in the playoffs.
Key facts: Taken in the sixth round (170th overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2004 NHL draft.
First shot: How is hockey different here?
Answer: "In Slovakia, we don't have any fights. If you make a big hit, you get a misconduct. I've never been in a fight — well, no, there was one in an exhibition game last year. My helmet came off and the guy from Spokane thought I threw it down, so he threw his down, too. I felt so bad after. He hit me like three times in my head. I still have to learn how to fight."
Second shot: How hard was it knowing little English last season?
Answer: "If there is something I don't understand, I just say, 'Yeah, OK, no problem.' It's easier than, 'I'm confused' or 'Say it again.' A couple guys on the team learned some bad Slovak words to say to me, but I just usually, say, 'Yeah, OK, no problem.' "
