Bronco Week In Review
Record: 2-6-0-2
..
The Broncos hosted 3 games at home this past week, starting things off with Kelowna on Monday, then playing Medicine Hat on Wednesday, and concluding with a battle against the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday. The Broncos will head to Alberta for 3 games in 3 nights the weekend of October 21, 22, 23. On Friday the team will head to Red Deer for the third match-up between the two clubs. On Saturday, the Broncos return to Lethbridge for the 3rd time and conclude their trip with a stop in Calgary on Sunday. Sunday's game will mark the first time the Broncos take on the Hitmen who are the quickest out of the gate in the Central Division.
On Thanksgiving Day, an afternoon game, the Broncos couldn't keep up with the WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets as they were defeated 3-2. Broncos captain Luke Hunter scored his first goal of the season in the first shift of the game on a classic rebound goal with Marc Desloges and Ned Lukacevic added helpers. The Broncos would then allow Kelowna to score 3 unanswered goals courtesy of Chris Ray (2) and Justin Keller. Ray would go on to be the games first star, with second star honours going to Donny Lloyd and third star to Blake Comeau. Broncos rookie Levi Nelson would go on to score his first goal of the season on the power play with 8:32 left in the third period, however it was not enough. A total of 1,975 fans attended Monday afternoon's game.

Wednesday night marked the kick-off to one of the Western Hockey Leagues best rivalries between the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Swift Current Broncos. With the new rules implemented in the WHL, goal production has been up all around the league, however, that did not prove to be true in this game. Kevin Undershute scored the first goal of the game with 12:51 left in the third period to put the Tigers up 1-0. Medicine Hats Clinton Pettapiece took a double-minor penalty for butt-ending late in the third period to give the Broncos a 5-4 man advantage. With Kyle Moir pulled, the Broncos found themselves with a 2 man advantage late in the game, allowing Jeremy Schenderling to score his 4th of the season from Daniel Rakos and R.J. LaRochelle, sending the game into overtime. With the extra frame settling nothing, all 1,920 fans in attendance got to witness the Broncos second home shootout of the season. Fittingly, the goalies stole the show in the shootout as well. Broncos shooters Marc Desloges, Daniel Rakos, and Luke Hunter could not find the back of the net while Roman Psurny, the second shooter for the Tigers, rung one off the post and in to win the game for the Tigers. The Broncos were out-shot 35-21 in the contest.

On Saturday night, the Red Deer Rebels returned to the Civic Centre for the 2nd time this season. The last time the two teams met, Red Deer Captain Ashton Rome won the game for the Rebels in a shootout. Saturdays match-up was a battle that saw Red Deer's Justin Scott open the scoring 5:42 into the 2nd period. Scott would score the second goal of the game with 8:05 gone in the 3rd period to put the Rebles up 2-0. Broncos rookie Levi Nelson responded just :52 seconds later to cut the Rebels lead in half. It would not be enough, however, as Ashton Rome scored his league leading 10th goal of the year over the shoulder of Broncos net-minder Kyle Moir with just 1:03 left on the score-clock. The Rebels Roman Wick would add more insurance with the Broncos net empty. Both clubs saw their power-plays struggle with Red Deer going 0 for 4 tried and the Broncos 0 for 5. The Broncos out-shot the Rebels 27-18 in the loss. A total of 1,989 fans took in Saturday nights action.
