Everett on Three Game Winning Streak
Silvertips Defeat Blazers 2-1
Everett Silvertips Press Release

Leland Irvings had 19 saves as the Silvertips win their third straight
Kamloops, BC - Today in Kamloops, BC at the Interior Savings Centre the Everett Silvertips come away with a 2-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers. The win ends Everett's nine game road losing streak to BC Division teams and also puts the Silvertips on a three game winning streak. Everett is now tied with the Portland Winterhawks for first place in the US Division, with a 4-3 record and 8 points. Kamloops is in second in the BC Division with 14 points and a 7-4 record. This is the second meeting of four between these two teams and they are tied at one win a piece.

One of Everett's youngest players put the first point up on the scoreboard for the team. Ryan Sawka tallied the goal at 12:45 of the first period after he snatched up a loose puck and fired. The puck hit the crossbar and dropped in. Devan Dubnyk, the Blazers' goalie, saw the shot coming but miscalculated. This is Sawka's first goal as an Everett Silvertip and his first goal in the Western Hockey League.

Kamloops evened up the score on a four on four goal at 2:17 of the second. Janick Steinmann took a shot, which Leland Irving stopped, but Kris Versteeg was there to catch the rebound and make it a 1-1 game. Another huge scoring opportunity for the Blazers happened at 10:42 when Kevin Hayman was awarded a penalty shot. Hayman, at the end of a long shift, lost control of the puck and Irving made the easy save. The game winner, late in the second, came from John Lammers on an Everett power play. Cody Thoring received the lone assist.

In goal for Everett once again was Leland Irving. Irving was solid and stopped 18 of 19 shots. His record jumps to 4-3. Devan Dubnyk made 20 saves on 22 shots but it wasn't enough for the win. His record falls to 6-3. On the power play both teams had five chances but only Everett was able to convert on one. Final shots on goal were Everett 22 and Kamloops 19.

The Silvertips are back in action on Tuesday, October 18th, at the Everett Events Center. Everett plays host to the Saskatoon Blades. Game time is set for 7:05pm.
