Bronco Week In Review
Record: 4-7-0-2
..
The Broncos played 3 games in 3 nights this past weekend that saw them in Red Deer on Friday night, Lethbridge Saturday, and closing things up on Sunday in Calgary…Next, the Broncos head to Medicine Hat on Wednesday night for a tilt against the Tigers, then host the same Tigers Friday, October 28th in Swift Current…For the first time since handing the Raiders a 7-3 loss on September 24th, the Broncos will face the Raiders in Prince Albert on Saturday, October 29th.

Friday night marked the first time the Broncos were in Red Deer this season after losing both games to the Rebels in Swift Current this season…On October 4th the Rebels won 2-1 in a shootout and on October 15th, the Rebels skated away with a 4-1 win…After 20 minutes of Friday's game, the Rebels streak over the Broncos looked as though it would continue when they out-shot the Broncos 17-3…Kyle Moir kept the Broncos in the game, however, allowing just 1 goal on those 17 shots…In the 2nd period, the Broncos responded in a big way, coming back to out-shoot the Rebels 13-2…The clubs hard work paid dividends as Ned Lukacevic and Jeremy Schenderling (PP), the teams leading goal scorers, both put the puck past former Bronco goaltender Andrew Leslie and gave the team a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes…The 3rd period did not prove to be any easier on the Rebels as the Broncos would go on to add 3 more by Josh Aspenlind, Marc Desloges, and Luke Hunter (SH)…The Broncos 5 unanswered goals gave them a 5-1 lead and they didn't look back…Rebels Brandon Sutter and Ted Vandermeer would go on to score late in the 3rd for the Rebels, however, it would not be enough as the Broncos left Red Deer with a 5-3 win…The 5 goal performance was just the 2nd time this season the Broncos have scored more than 2 goals in 1 game… The Rebels out-shot the Broncos 31-25 in front of 6,292 fans.

On Saturday night, the Broncos traveled South to Lethbridge for the 3rd time this young season… Goaltender Kyle Moir struggled in his 8th consecutive start, allowing 3 goals on 12 shots…Moir was pulled late in the 1st period and was replaced by Travis Yonkman…Yonkman allowed a 4th goal in the 1st period as the Hurricanes went into the break with a 4-0 lead…The Broncos responded with a stronger 2nd period, out-shooting the Hurricanes 11-6, however, the score remained the same…In the 3rd period, the Canes scored their 5th unanswered goal…Jeremy Schenderling finally cracked Kevin Opsahl's shutout bid late in the 3rd, scoring his 6th of the season…Ned Lukacevic would add the Broncos 2nd goal of the game… It would not, however, be enough as the Hurricanes skated away with a 5-2 win…The Canes now lead the season series 1-2-0-0 against the Broncos.

Concluding their road trip on Sunday evening, the Broncos made a stop in Calgary to take on the division leading Hitmen…The Broncos wasted no time, putting some early pressure on Calgary that saw Jeremy Schenderling score his 7th goal of the season just 55 seconds into the 1st period…The Broncos continued with their new-found offense as Andrew Wasmuth scored his 2nd goal of the season to give the club a 2-0 lead after the 1st period…After a strong 1st period, the Broncos kept coming with the pressure and rookie Levi Nelson scored his 3rd goal of the season on the power play with 9:08 left in the 2nd period…The Broncos, with a comfortable lead, were out-shooting the Hitmen 19-12 after 2 periods of play…Goaltender Travis Yonkman was taken from the game early in the 2nd period when he collided with former Bronco Darryl Moscaluk in a race for the puck…Karl Benke took matters into his own hands by coming to the aid of his injured teammate as he dropped the mitts with Moscaluk…Moscaluk was given a 5 minute major for charging for his efforts…Nelsons goal was on the major penalty…The Hitmen would rally late, getting goals from Captain Brett Carson and Ryan White, however, goaltender Kyle Moir came up with a handful of major saves in the dying seconds of the game, including on a 6 on 3 penalty kill, to preserve the win…Final shots in front of 6,711 fans were 27-22 in favor of Calgary.
