PATS ASSIGN KYLE ERMEL TO WEYBURN

Regina SK ---- This afternoon the Regina Pats assigned eighteen-year-old forward Kyle Ermel to the Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL

Ermel rejoined the team earlier this month after leaving the Pats at the start of training camp due to personal reasons. Last year in an injury-shortened season with the Pats, Ermel scored one goal and two assists in thirteen games.

The Pats play the Saskatoon Blades in the Saskatchewan Centennial Retro Challenge, beginning tonight at Credit Union Centre. The Pats host the Blades tomorrow night, beginning at 7:00PM at Brand Centre. Tickets for Saturday’s game are ½ price and are available at the Brandt Centre Box Office, or by calling 781-9300.

I'm actually the sports reporter at the Weyburn newspaper and what happened was Kyle was supposed to go to the Battleford North Stars but was traded to the Red Wings (its kind of a complicated situation).

What's so complicated? Park didn't want to go back to Weyburn so he was traded to the Battlefords' for Ermel, with a couple of other names involved in the deal as well.

ERMEL TRADED AGAIN

The Weyburn Red Wings and Melville Millionaires completed a 1-for-1 swap on Monday and also closed the door on the outstanding Kai Magnussen deal from last season.

The Wings send 1987 born forward Kyle Ermel and undisclosed future considerations to the Mils for 1985 born defenseman Cleve Len and the futures on the Magnussen trade have been cancelled. The Mils dealt Magnussen to the Wings on January 10th of this year to help the Wings their bid for an RBC Royal Bank Cup Championship, which they won. Part of the future considerations in the trade stipulated for the Wings to compensate the Mils a player at a later date.

In Ermel, the Mils pick up a player they have coveted for weeks, but were unable to land from the Battlefords North Stars. He was, instead, dealt by the Stars to the Wings in a four player trade along with Jordan Weibel for Greg Park and James Pasternak. He played two games with Weyburn and was pointless. He had 30-points in 17-games with the Regina Pat Canadians Midget 'AAA' Hockey Club last season and also played 13-games for the WHL Pats and collected a goal and two assists.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings get Len at a time when he is playing some of the best hockey of his Junior 'A' career. He was recently named the SJHL Defenseman of the Week for the period ending October 30th and has 3-goals and 1-assist in 16-games this season.

It's complicated because Park didn't want to report to Weyburn because he wanted to be traded to the Battlefords' for reason I don't even know. But it doesn't matter now because it seems Ermel is having problems staying with one team.
