Anyone know why there is 27 players on the Medicine Hat Roster (WHL site and Tigers site lists this many?). . .

Actually, if you don't just use the birth-year but the actual birthdate the Rebels are younger than the Hitmen. :p
As of today the Rebels have an average age of 18 years and 119 days, they Hitmen average 18 years and 135 days. The Rebels have a lot of late birthdays.

Hockey Canada uses birth year which is why I did . . . our world jr. (U20) team would have looked different if they did it by exact date. ;)

True but late birthdays are an issue in hockey (look at the NHL draft, they have September 15 as the cut-off date or look at the bantam draft, only one player drafted in the first round last year has a late birthday - Cass Mappin for the Rebels - all the others are born January to June and this is a trend you can watch every year).
Don't get me wrong, the Hitmen have a very young and very strong team this year. So it's pretty impressive how they play. The Rebels on the other hand have a young and very unexperienced team. I think they will get better with more experience (and the trades they did :p).

and for the world juniors a player cant turn 20 yrs old during the tournament until jan 1 to be eligible and as for the WHL age a player can be 15 at the start of the yr but has to turn 16 by dec 31 and for a 20 yr old he cant turn 21 until jan 1
