The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings return home Monday from their annual west coast road trip, fresh off a disappointing 4-3 Overtime Shootout loss to the U.S. Division leading Silvertips.

Zach Hamill, the final Everett shooter, beat Brandon's Tyler Plante to give the 'Tips their tenth victory of the season, extending the Wheat Kings' winless streak to four games.

Codey Burki scored twice for the Wheat Kings, including the equalizer with less than a minute remaining in the third period and Plante sitting on the Brandon bench for the extra attacker.
Burki had four goals in five games out west to lead the defending Eastern Conference Champions, who return home with an overall record of 4-12-1-1.

After going 0-3-2 out west two years ago and 1-3-3 last winter, the Wheat Kings managed to collect three of a possible ten points this time around. Brandons only victory came last Tuesday night when John Wikner's goal midway through the final period lifted the Wheats to a come from behind 4-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans.

In between the win against Tri-City and Sunday's Shootout loss to the Silvertips, Brandon came up short against the Spokane Chiefs, Seattle Thunderbirds and Portland Winter Hawks.

"We played our best two games of the trip...against Portland and Everett," Wheat Kings' coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon told CKLQ Sunday. "I saw a lot of improvements out here."

Veteran Derek LeBlanc, who scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in Sunday's game in Everett, was one of three players to score five points in five games out west and enters this Saturday's game against the visiting Swift Current Broncos as Brandon's scoring leader with twelve points in 18 games. Burki (4-1-5) and captain Teegan Moore (2-3-5) are tied for second on the club with eleven points each.

Netminder Tyler Plante, the 2005 WHL Rookie of the Year and a second round draft choice of the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers, appeared in four of the 5 games, compiling a 1-3-1 record, a 4.39 goals against average and an .859 save percentage.

Brandon enters this coming weekend with a .500 record (3-3-1) on home ice. However, the Wheat Kings have lost two straight at the Keystone Centre and will be looking for their first home ice win since beating Regina on Friday, October 14th. The Wheat Kings will conclude a mini weekend home stand on Sunday night at six against the Saskatoon Blades.

The game was really sloppy last night as it looked like both teams were very tired. You guys should proud that your team got a point last night because the Wheat Kings never gave up and played hard til the end. Good luck to you all in the Eastern Conference and I may make the trip out there next year.
