Silvertips Acquire Leavold and Leckovic from Broncos
Created: Nov 1, 2005
Everett, WA – October 31st, 2005: The Everett Silvertips have made a trade with the Swift Current Broncos this afternoon by acquiring forwards Brady Leavold and Boris Leckovic from the Broncos in exchange for two conditional draft picks.

Leavold who was recently in the BCHL (Junior A) with the Burnaby Express added 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points in 3 games with the Express this season. At the start of the 2005-2006 season Leavold added an assist in 7 games with the Broncos. Last season with the Broncos, the Port Coquitlam, BC native tallied 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 68 games.

Boris Leckovic has posted one assist in 13 games with the Broncos this season. The Burnaby, BC native recorded 4 goals and 4 assists in 53 games with the Broncos and the Saskatoon Blades last season.

“With our injuries to Wheat, Fiala, Doyle and Smyke our healthy roster is down to 20 players and we are in the middle of a 16 game stretch in 28 days,” mentions Silvertips Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Kevin Constantine. “With acquiring Brady and Boris, we add experience to our roster that will get us through this tough stretch of games.”

You guys are getting two very different but good hockey players. Leovold was rookie of the year, last year with the Broncos and has all kinds of talent. Not sure why he left Swift but glad he's getting another shot. Boris in my opinion is the leagues number one aggitater but has a tendancy to go overboard once in awhile. If he sticks to playing hockey he's a treat to watch and is quite comical. Definetly a role player.

Could Leckovic be an enforcer type player? Seems to be one of pieces to the team that we lack. Fighter? Any info welcome, on either players. Thanks in advance. :thumb:

Surprised that we got more players without giving much up.

Boris will fight, but likes to talk the talk and do the chicken with his arms, tends to get the opposition off their game more than a fight. He's entertaining, I'll guarantee you've never had a player like Boris on your team before. he was suspended awhile ago for jumping a guy in Lethbridge and was suspended last year for some, "on ice comments". If he sticks to hockey he's very effective. I'm sad to see him go, but wish him all the best.
Leovold has lots of offensive talent and should fit in well, if he works hard and doesn't get frustrated he could be a number one line, type of guy. You guys did well on this trade.

It should be interesting to see if Boris will still be some what of a loose cannon with Constatine being the kind of no nonsense coach who would grow tired of the kind of antics Boris has done on the ice before. Brady will be a good pickup for the Tips. Interesting to see what the futures will turn out to be though.

You gotta love any kid named Boris! You know he was probably taunted in elementary school! Should be fun to watch him!

I hope they both can stick around after the players who are hurt return.

With Leckovic, Constantine won't take his crap so I'm not worried, hopefully he becomes a smart enforcer for the Tips. Leovold sounds like a good filler to the Fiala, Wheat void. Although, I'm pretty comfortable with the offense. ;)

Does Leovold and Leckovic become expendable once Wheat and Fiala return?

Does Leovold and Leckovic become expendable once Wheat and Fiala return?

One would think so! Unless one of them shows exceptional talent and "plays" their way onto the team taking a younger players ice time.

Guess we will see what happens.

If Brady plays like he can, and I think he will now that he's closer to home, he'll stay with the team. He's capable of being a dominate player and you should be able to tell in the first few games if he's in it or not.
Boris will have to work hard and keep his nose clean, no more suspensions, and he could stick with the team as well.
But who knows, time will tell. Best of luck to the both of them and congrats to Everett on the great start to the season.

Tips' trade for depth called off
Brady Leavold, one of the players in the deal, decides not to report to Everett.

EVERETT - Well, it's back to the drawing board for the short-handed Everett Silvertips.

Monday's trade, designed to provide the Silvertips with extra bodies while they deal with their current injury crisis, has been called off because one of the players has decided not to report to Everett.

Everett and Swift Current agreed to a deal Monday that sent 18-year-old forwards Brady Leavold and Boris Leckovic to the Silvertips in exchange for two conditional Bantam Draft picks.

However, Leavold has decided not to report to Everett, thus nixing the trade in its current form.

"The trade's probably not going to go through because it's contingent on the players reporting and Leavold's not going to report," Everett coach and director of hockey operations Kevin Constantine said. "So that portion of the trade will probably be null and void. It was kind of a package deal so we have to rediscuss the rest of the trade."

Leavold left Swift Current after seven games this season and joined his hometown Burnaby Express of the British Columbia Hockey League, where he had three goals and five assists in his first three games. He's decided to remain with the Express rather than return to the Western Hockey League.

"He joined a junior team there in Burnaby, which is where he's from, and I think he's just comfortable with where he's at right now," Constantine said. "He kind of got started with that team and just wants to stay there."

The fact that Leavold has decided not to report doesn't mean the trade is completely dead in the water, and Leckovic was still scheduled to meet up with the Silvertips in Spokane. But Leavold was Everett's primary target in the deal.

"The Leavold trade is something we started working on right away when we knew both (Ondrej) Fiala and (Torrie) Wheat were injured," Constantine said. "We spent a lot of time wrapped up in that, that was a trade we thought made sense now and in the future, so all our energy went into that. Now we've got to start over.

"The whole trade itself has to be rethought," Constantine added. "It's not that Leckovic wouldn't be a part of the deal anymore, it's just that the terms of the trade have to be rethought."

The trade's nullification throws a monkey wrench into Everett's immediate plans. Everett begins its longest road trip of the season tonight - seven games in 11 days, including the Tips' swing through the Central Division - with a shortage of healthy bodies.

Forwards Wheat and Fiala, who both recovering from knee injuries, are not making the trip.

Defenseman Eric Doyle, whose hip injury is healing faster than expected, is making the trip. However, Constantine is not counting on Doyle being ready to play during the trip.

Right wing Jesse Smyke, who missed the past five games, appears ready to return to the lineup. However, even if Smyke returns Everett still has just 21 players available.

Therefore the Tips are looking at contingency plans for the road trip, including bringing in some players from their list to temporarily round out the roster.

"It's back to ground zero a little bit, with maybe a little more lean towards some of the guys who were cut last," Constantine said. "Matt Meropoulis, Brennan Zasitko, even (Kyle) Beach (Everett's first-round pick in the 2005 Bantam Draft) who can play five games for us, maybe getting him in some of those five games now."

The good news for Everett is that despite the injuries, they still go into the road trip on a roll. The Tips have won 10 of their past 11 games and are eight points ahead of tonight's opponent Spokane for first place in the U.S. Division.

"It's always good to get some momentum going," Everett defenseman Shaun Heshka said. "Six wins in a row is something we've never done in this franchise, and to continue that is something we're really striving for. If we can continue that one to seven, eight, nine, ten, that'd be great. If not, we're just going to have to keep chipping away on this road trip to see how many wins we can get."

Brady Leovold posts in the Swift Current Forum under Leovold10. I asked him this morning to clear up what is happening. Usually a press release of a trade is not made unless the players involved are asked if they accept the trade and are reporting. Kevin must have spoken to both and got assurances they would report. Brady for some reason changed his mind and now is not coming. I know Brady is playing for his hometown team and has 8 points in his first 3 games. Maybe he is having more fun playing for his hometown and is enjoying the game again. But now what happens to Leckovic?

The Silvertips acquired 18-year-old forwards Brady Leavold and Boris Leckovic from the Broncos in exchange for two conditional Bantam draft picks. However, Leavold did not report to the Silvertips, thus voiding that part of the original trade.

Leavold, who currently plays for Burnaby of the BCHL, will remain on Swift Current's list, and the Silvertips will rescind the conditional Bantam draft pick offered in the original agreement.

Leckovic, however, will join the Silvertips in exchange for a conditional Bantam draft pick, thus completing the other half of the transaction.

Silvertips rework trade for Leckovic
Everett acquires right wing Boris Leckovic from Swift Current.

By Nick Patterson

Boris Leckovic is now officially an Everett Silvertip.

Leckovic, whose status was in limbo following the breakdown of Everett's trade with Swift Current, has joined the team and been added to the roster.

Everett originally acquired Leckovic, an 18-year-old right wing, along with Brady Leavold from Swift Current in exchange for two conditional Bantam Draft picks. However, the trade was voided when Leavold chose not to report to Everett.

Though there was no official word from the Silvertips on Thursday, the Western Hockey League's Web site reported that the trade had been reworked, with the Silvertips receiving Leckovic and Swift Current receiving one conditional Bantam Draft pick. Leavold, who left Swift Current after seven games to play for the Burnaby Express of the British Columbia Hockey League, remained on the Broncos' 50-player protected list.

Leckovic, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Burnaby, had one assist and 38 penalty minutes in 13 games with Swift Current this season.

Scouting report: Everett begins its stretch of five road games against Central Division opponents in eight days tonight in Red Deer.

Everett (12-4) and Red Deer (5-12) are teams on opposite paths, the Silvertips riding a seven-game winning streak and the Rebels marred in a six-game losing skid.

Red Deer recently shook up its roster with a series of trades, sending 20-year-old captain and leading scorer Ashton Rome to Kamloops for 19-year-old left wing Kris Versteeg and 20-year-old defenseman Brennan Chapman, acquiring 18-year-old center Brett Sutter from Kootenay for 18-year-old defenseman Paul Kurceba, and acquiring 17-year-old defenseman Luke Egener from Vancouver for 18-year-old defenseman John Flatters.

Sutter, the nephew of head coach Brent Sutter, leads the team in scoring with 19 points (10 goals, nine assists), including two goals and two assists in three games since arriving from Kootenay. Versteeg, who had a hat trick for Kamloops against Everett in the season opener, has seven goals and seven assists.

Red Deer's main struggles have come on defense. The Rebels have surrendered 73 goals, the second-most in the WHL, and have the worst penalty-killing rate in the league at 74 percent. Nineteen-year-old goaltender Andrew Leslie is 5-7 with a 3.95 goals against average and .874 save percentage.
