GAME NOTES: The WHEAT KINGS will be hoping to close out a mini 2-game weekend home stand with back to back wins when they host the SASKATOON BLADES Sunday night…After going 1-3-1 on their recent 5-game west coast road trip, the WHEATS returned home Saturday night and scored an impressive 8-5 victory over the visiting SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS…The WHEAT KINGS scored five second period goals to wipe out an early 2-1 deficit, snapping a 4-game (0-3-1) losing streak and moving them out of last place in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Division for the first time since the opening week of the 2005-06 regular season…DEREK LEBLANC paced the winners with three goals while MARK DERLAGO and ST. LOUIS BLUES’ draft choice RYAN REAVES added a pair including what proved to be the winner with four minutes remaining in the second period – capping off a 50 second span that saw the WHEATS erupt for three unanswered goals…..Defenceman DARYL BOYLE also scored for the winners, who improved their record to 5-12-1-1, good for twelve points – one better than both PRINCE ALBERT and RED DEER in the Eastern Conference…For the second consecutive game, the WHEAT KINGS outshot their opponent (41-30)…Sunday’s game broke a streak of sixteen consecutive games of being outshot…Despite last night’s win, BRANDON is off to its worst start since the 1991-92 campaign…At home, the WHEATS are 4-3-1 while on the road, BRANDON is 1-9-1….After going 1-2-0 in September, the WHEAT KINGS were 3-10-2 in October.

WEST COAST DIARY: This was the first time in two years that the WHEAT KINGS have played in the northwestern United States. During the 2003-04 campaign, BRANDON was winless (0-3-2)…During last year’s 7-game excursion – BRANDON went 1-3-3.

VS.SASKATOON: This is the second meeting of the season between these two clubs and the first of two over the course of the next five days…BLADES scored an easy 7-2 win on October 5th at the Keystone Centre…During the 2004-05 campaign, BRANDON was 6-4-0 vs. BLADES…Of the returning players, DEREK LEBLANC led the WHEATS (2-6-8).

MILESTONES: Last night’s 3-gaol effort was the first of DEREK LEBLANC’S 3-year WHL career…17-year old rookie ANDREW CLARK picked up his first two WHL points – both assists – during Saturday’s win over the BRONCOS…Goalie KURT JORY made his first ever WHL start last Saturday in PORTLAND.

BRANDON BITS: DEREK LEBLANC (9-6-15) leads the club in scoring….WHEATS are 1-2 in three overtime games this year and 1-1 in Overtime Shootouts…WHEATS are 2-6-0 in one-goal games this season…BRANDON’S powerplay has gone 10-39 (26.5%) over the course of its last nine games…Left-winger COLE HUNTER was named the WHEATS’ TIP TOP TAILORS PLAYE ROF THE MONTH…BRANDON has opened the scoring in five of 19 games…CODEY BURKI had four goals in five games on the club’s west coast road trip.
