Tips not so special in loss to Medicine Hat
Everett's specialty teams come up empty, but the Tigers score two power-play goals to win 3-1 Tuesday.

MEDICINE HAT, Alberta - All season long specialty teams have carried the Everett Silvertips. But Tuesday night those specialty teams let the Silvertips down.

Everett failed to score on seven power-play opportunities, and the Silvertips gave up what amounted to two power-play goals, falling 3-1 to the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The loss was Everett's second straight since its franchise-record eight-game winning streak.

Daine Todd and Michal Psurny scored third-period goals and Kevin Undershute added an empty-net goal for Medicine Hat (12-3-0-6), which outshot Everett 27-9.

The lone bright spot for Everett (13-6) was a goal by 15-year-old Kyle Beach in his first Western Hockey League game. Leland Irving made 24 saves in goal for the Silvertips.

Everett was again playing short-handed, with defenseman Shaun Heshka scratched with an upper-body injury and center Zach Hamill scratched because of the flu. In their place, Beach and recent trade acquisition Boris Leckovic both appeared for the first time for the Silvertips.

Everett came into the game first in the WHL in power-play efficiency and third in the league in penalty-killing efficiency. But Medicine Hat's penalty kill, second in the league, kept Everett's power play at bay. And with Everett getting into penalty trouble, giving up the advantage eight times, the Tigers took advantage with one power-play goal and another goal coming moments after a penalty ended.

All the scoring occurred in the third period.

Medicine Hat struck first at 7 minutes, 38 seconds. An Everett penalty had just ended when Darren Helm fed Todd out front and Todd slipped a shot under Irving, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Everett took another penalty 12 seconds after the goal and Medicine Hat took advantage to go ahead 2-0. Brett Robertson did good work behind the net, then made a cross-crease pass to Psurny, who scored at the far post with 9:39 remaining.

Everett gave itself life at 17:41, Beach scoring down low on a one-timer with Irving pulled for an extra attacker, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

But the Tigers put it away at 18:59 when Undershute scored into an empty net.

Neither team scored in the first period, though Medicine Hat had the run of play, outshooting the Tips 9-1. The best scoring chance came during a Tigers power play when Robertson missed an open net, then seconds later forced a good glove save out of Irving.

It remained scoreless through the second period as Everett killed off four penalties. Irving made several good saves, including a big glove save on Psurny, and Medicine Hat goaltender Matt Keetley saved a good effort by Peter Mueller. Medicine Hat outshot Everett 18-5 through two periods.

Former Silvertip Kyle Annesley, who scored two goals in three games before being released at the overager cutdown date, was a healthy scratch for Medicine Hat.

I thought these two teams matched up well....they are both young and fast...

The tigers seemed to block a lot of shots that kept their shot total down....there was a couple times where the tips could of had a real good scoring chance....only to have a pass go to far or a shot fanned on..Its too bad that was thier only encounter this year...

P.S. Dont believe every tiger fan on the white board...some stuff you just have to laugh at
