A former first round draft choice of the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals is this year’s second segment winner in the Brandon Wheat Kings’ Molson Cup Three Star Program.

During the season’s second segment, which ended this past weekend, the 19-year old Winkler Manitoba product collected thirty Molson Cup points to edge out veteran Lance Monych and rookie goalkeeper Tyler Plante, who had 25 points each.

Entering Sunday’s game against the Hitmen in Calgary, Fehr is second in the Western Hockey League scoring race with 65 points including a league leading 41 goals. A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Fehr is well on his way to becoming the first Wheat King in over twenty years to score fifty goals in back-to-back seasons. Kelly Glowa was the last Brandon player to do it when he scored 59 goals in ’81-82 before firing 71 goals the following year. The last Wheat King to lead the league in scoring was center Ray Ferraro who scored a league record 108 goals and 192 points during the 1983-84 campaign.

In addition to winning the Second Segment, Fehr also leads the overall club standings with 65 Molson Cup points, followed by Plante with 55 and First Segment winner Ryan Stone with fifty.

The Molson Cup evolved from one of hockey’s oldest traditions – the selection of the stars of the game. The Molson Cup is presented annually to the major junior hockey player on each team that receives the most player of the game points in all home and away regular season games.

During the second segment, Fehr played in his 250th career WHL game while eclipsing the 200-point plateau. Entering today’s game at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, Fehr has 128 career goals and 231 points. In fact, he has moved to within thirteen goals of moving into a tie for tenth place on the club’s all time goal scoring list with former Vancouver Canuck first round draft choice Rick Blight.

A special presentation to Fehr will be made by Molson Canada representative Val Robertson during Friday night’s game at the Keystone Centre against the Hitmen.
