I know alot of people dont like the composite one piece sticks that the teams are using as they seem to break a lot at key moments ect. But when you look for a stick the flex is always a factor to how you shoot the puck. Each player is different.
When a stick hits the ice under pressure during a slap shot ect there is an elastic band effect once you swing through and the stick comes back off the ice. That "snap" rapidly fires the puck much harder than you actually shot it. I found this picture of Alexei Glukhov from the Victoria Salmon Kings and though it appropriate to show people what these sticks are about. At the time the stick comes forward its under so much pressure it wants to straighten back out right away with lots of force.
Try and make a wood stick do this. These sticks really are amazing!
