For at least one member of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, the upcoming Holiday season will be filled with a steady diet of International hockey.

16-year old rookieMatt Hallick has been named to Team Pacific for the 2006 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, to be held in Regina from December 26th to January 5th.

Meanwhile defenceman Keith Aulie, Brandon's first round bantam pick last year, is expected to be named to Team Western on Thursday.

Team Western is made up of the top 16-year old prospects from Manitoba and Saskatchewan while Team Pacific is comprised of the top young talent from the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.

A 6'3" 190 lb Medicine Hat product, Hallick has dressed for nine games this season, scoring two goals, three points and collecting one minor penalty. A second round pick (36th overall) of the Wheat Kings in 2004, Hallick scored eight goals and 19 points in 37 games while playing AAA midget in Notre Dame last winter.

This could mark the second straight season that Brandon has sent two players to the Under 17 Tournament. Current Wheat Kings' Chad Erb and Mike Cann attended last year's event in Lethbridge, with Erb's Team Western capturing the gold medal by defeating Cann's Team Pacific in the Championship Final.

Hallick is one of three Wheat Kings scheduled to attend the second Coca Cola - Source for Sports Minor Hockey Caravan of the season tonight, in Oak Lake. Joining him will be former Kamloops Blazer Bryan Kauk and rookie goalkeeper Kurt Jory.
