The defending Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Champion Brandon Wheat Kings kick off what promises to be a pivotal home and home weekend series with the Prince Albert Raiders Friday night at the Keystone Centre.

The Wheat Kings, who dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Prince Albert two weeks ago in the only game played between these two Eastern Division rivals this season, will travel to Prince Albert for game two of the weekend series on Saturday.

A victory tonight by the Wheat Kings would move them to within one point of the fourth place Raiders in the Eastern Division.

Brandon hasn't played since scoring an impressive 5-2 victory over the front running Moose Jaw Warriors last Friday night. In fact, the Wheat Kings have now collected points in three straight games to close the gap between themselves and the Raiders - the team they beat out in last year's WHL Eastern Conference Final.

Still without Jeff Topilko and John Wikner due to injuries, the Wheat Kings could have veterans Corey Courchene and Mike Cann back in the lineup this weekend. Courchene has missed two games with a strained neck while Cann has been out of action for three weeks with a leg injury. Topilko and Wikner are still out with a broken leg and knee injury respectively.

Entering weekend play, 19-year old left-winger Derek LeBlanc leads the club with eleven goals and 20 points in 27 games while Codey Burki and Mark Derlago are next with eight goals each. Rookie Andrew Clark meanwhile has goals in back to back games. Netminder Tyler Plante, the 2005 WHL Rookie of the Year, has appeared in 23 of Brandon's 27 games and has compiled a 4.33 goals against average and an .894 save pct. In his last three starts however, he's posted a 3.30 goals against mark.

Well we really have our act together. We are playing some solid hockey as of late.Points in 4 or 5 straight.Great game tonight by the boys.1 goal shy of free breakfast.Sandell with the trick,Derlago with 2 helpers. It seemed as if everyone is putting forth the effort.Plante played well,Dittmer,Kauk and others had a good outting tonight. Now keep it going and pick up the second of this home and home and we could very well be back in this thing with some confidence.Just need to get that PP going.Keep it up boys.

Good luck in PA tomorrow,I'll be the only one with a Wheatkings jersey on in the building sitting in section 10.
