There's quite a few guys that arent there that I thought would be, like Taylor Dakers, Mike Busto, Ben Maxwell, Steve Dasilva, Paul Kurceba and Brett Sutter. Seriously though, The guys that have already been mentioned,Wolski, Mcardle, plus I thought Ryan Russell would be there. Also, 1st rd pick Alex Bourret from the Q I thought would've been invited. Oh well. Go Canada Go

Haven't heard of half of those guys.

Yeah, but this is your fault. Sorry, but 16 of the 32 players invited are first round draft picks, 8 second round and 4 third round. The four players not drafted are all projected top 10 picks, in the case of Esposito probably first over-all.
Every year there are some players that could have or should have been invited and I don't think that there will ever be a team where everyone is happy. Just look at all the discussion about last years team (Fehr or Stone, not to mention all the whining about too many players from the Dub) and this was the best and most dominating Canadian team ever.
This will be a strong team and if it gets good goaltending will challenge the US team for the gold medal, IMO

Esposito is the front runner for the 2007 draft, he is a 1989 born player and right now the fourth best scorer in the Q as a 16 year old!

Cogliano, for example, is a first round draft pick and was the top scorer for the Canadian U18 team at the World Cup (a team that included for example Gilbert Brule).

Ever thought that maybe, for hockey fans in the East, guys like Boyd, Fistric or McArdle are as unknown as are the players you mentioned for you?

It's Team Canada, not team WHL guys.

I was hoping that Mikkelson might be well enough to get named, but I guess he isnt ready enough yet to play. Besides that it looks like a pretty good list. Shame he got injured when he did.

I look forward to seeing some of these players from outside of the Dub play, especially Bertram, for obvious reasons.

McCardle is the biggest surprise in my books, and it was nice to see Pogge get rewarded for his stellar play so far this year. Pogge may just make the final cut.

Congrats to everyone named to the team.

Pogge may be the Jeff Glass of last year. Nobody expected him to be on team Canada, but was the best goalie in the league and earned his way on. I hope Pogge does the same. In my opinion he has been the best goalie in the league and deserves to be the starter

I just re-read my posts and you are right it was rude and I apologize for that. It was meant as a playful jib but I admit it didn't work. English is not my first language, so I hope you accept my apology.

The 8 players you say you've never heard about, are 2 first round NHL draft picks (Pokulok and Cogliano), 2 second round picks (Vlasic and Blunden), one third round pick (Letang) and one fourth round pick (Pyatt). Brassard is supposed to go top ten this year and Esposito is widely considered the best Canadian prospect since Crosby (and is living up to the hype by putting up 2 points per game and a +25 rating as a 16 yr old).

You say you don't care about the OHL or the QMJHL (and I suppose you don't care about the NCAA either ;) ) but don't forget this is Team Canada and not Team WHL.

Don't forget about Wolski from the OHL, he scored 4 goals in two games verses the Russians? I am also surprised Fistric wasn't invited, I just seen Giant owner whining all over SN that his boy isn't invited?

The way Pogge is playing its his job right now, Plante has one job and its Dubby's job to steal it away from Pogge.

Red Line on # 41 Sasha Pokulok - D, Cornell University

"Huge and extremely mobile. Has an exceptionally long stick/reach and likes to handle the puck. Makes crisp, accurate passes, always leads breaking forwards right on the the tape. Loves to lead the break and join the rush. Can make moves like a 5-10 forward and sees the ice very well. Terrifically aggressive point man on PP who cuts off the slot and causes all sorts of problems. Perpetually in motion, never stands still - but wanders and roams all over the place. Gets himself out of position and has no concept of defensive awareness or discipline. Exceptional footwork, turns and agility for a huge man, but is not at all physical. Does not like to hit or be hit. With his outstanding size and skills, has as much upside as any d-man in this draft, but is very raw and far from polished. Last two months of the season were wiped out by knee/ankle injury.

Projection: #4 defenceman and PP triggerman.
Style compares to: Paul Mara

I didn't think Fistric was going to get the invite myself. I'm not surprised in the least.

I still think Price will be in there. He has been playing very well lately, and with a better defence in front of him I think he will get the job. Im guessing Price and Pogge get the jobs.

I worded it wrong. It's not that I don't care about the O and the Q it's just that I don't follow them as closely as I do the WHL and the NHL.I'am not a big fan of College athletics in the United States.Whether it be NCAA basketball, football or hockey.I do however follow university sports up here in Canada. But it doesn't make me ignorant because I don't follow NCAA athletics.I honestly think the WHL is the more dominant of the 3 CHL leagues anyway,so thats where my attention is.Last year it was kinda team WHL for Canada, this year it's nice that it's spread out, this way I can see the talent in the other leagues,as well as possibly seeing Toews,Bertram and Cogliano.I do accept you apology as well.

I like the team, Good for Dubnyk, He has it in him, hopefully he brings it out at the tourny. The only difference I wouldv'e done is take Esposito over Downie. I know Downie is good but after that hazing incident i'd have no room for him on my team, specially when there's players who cut there hair to be on the team.

Looks like a winner to me. I think Dubnyk deserves to make the team. He stands on his head everytime he comes to Kelowna, or when the Rockets go to Kamloops. He is a big game player. I am sure most of the Blazers fans would agree with me, that if he had a better team in front of him he would be one of the best goalies anywhere.

Now that the stress of the camp is over I hope the boys can come out and get to know each others styles and play hard for Sutter, He is still imo the best coach in the WHL and if the Rebels were in a contender position instead of rebuilding all his critics would be ecstatic of his chances of getting these boys to play for him. If anyone can motivate and get the respect of his players it is Brent, just like last year. I don't recall many fans complaining about his coaching then. Lets all cheer for the Canadian boys and hopefully another metal Gold would be nice. :thumb:

Here's one for the argument. I don't know about Dubnyk, but Price has a gold medal and a silver medal for his efforts in international play (2004 U-18 Worlds and 2004 U-18 Jr. Worlds). That's hard to overlook. I'll admit, I am biased. However, if it came down to a toss-of-the-coin between the two, they chose a 19-year old over the 18-year old. I would think they would want the proven goaltender with international experience on a team loaded with 18's already and get him a taste of this level for next year, but I'm not the coach. I'm glad that he is only missing (2) games instead of (6) from the Ams.

EDIT: Pardon me, they will both be available starting tonight in Seattle for (2) game before the break. If they play tonight, they will not have missed any games.

This I will tell you. Brent Sutter, his style, his demands, his knowledge of the game and his reputation is exactly what this team needs. As everyone has said, we are arguably not the strongest team this year, but if anyone can get the best out of what they have to work with over a short duration, Brent is the coach that can do it. Every player that has made this team will step up the little extra in hopes of showing Brent that he made the right decisions. AND besides, they are representing their country!

Stephenson re-joins Canada's WJHC team

TSN.ca Staff

Canada's world junior team held its practice on Sunday without forwards Dustin Boyd and David Bolland.

Bolland, who made the squad after being cut last year, left practice on Saturday with what the team described as a minor upper body injury.

Boyd is sidelined with a lower body injury, and Hockey Canada has called Tri-City defenceman Logan Stephenson to join the team.

Bolland has 28 goals and 71 points in 29 games with the OHL's London Knights this season. Boyd, who was also cut from last year's team, has 27 goals and 47 points with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League.

Thats just dumb. Why when 2 forwards go down you call upon a defenceman?I don't understand. How severe are Bolland and Boyds injuries??

This is also from the tsn article "Boyd is sidelined with a lower body injury, and Hockey Canada has called Tri-City defenceman Logan Stephenson to join the team for the pre-competition portion." Still doesnt make sense why theyd call up a dman though.

I'm wondering if it is because of the "taxi squad" proposal that has been adopted for the Olympics. Sure doesn't make sense unless there is something more to the story.

The Taxi squad is an olympic only thing. To the best of my knowlege, the IIHF has always allowed injury replacements before a tournament starts. I don't think the roster is final until the tournament begins.

As far as the goaltending debate goes, all that matters is that Pogge had better be as good for Canada as he is for Calgary, because it really did not matter who the backup was. All three stunk.

That is why Stephanson was recalled. I do believe it was Bourdon who was injured or has the flu and is questionable. As far as the goalie bashing or the Dubnyk bashing, Pogge will play all the games that count so it makes no dif who is sitting at the end of the bench. Beside Dubnyk is really good at opening the door.

Taxi Squad?What is that?

A Taxi Squad is a group of players that practice with a team (as they are a part of the team) and will only be used in games in an emergency situation (ie. injury of illness). In the Olympics teams will be allowed to name a 3 player Taxi Squad.
