Teddy Bear Toss is Friday night

Brandon, Manitoba – The Holiday season is here and the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings will certainly be busy over the course of the next ten days, doing their part in helping to make the season brighter for those less fortunate throughout western Manitoba.

The Wheat Kings, who close out a 3-game Saskatchewan road trip Wednesday night in Moose Jaw against the Warriors, will return home Friday to kick off a 3-game home stand to close out their pre-Christmas schedule. Fans attending Friday night’s game against the Medicine Hat Tigers are encouraged to bring a new, stuffed animal to the game and when the Wheat Kings score their first goal – “Toss your Teddy” to the ice below. All stuffed animals collected as part of the Annual Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss will go to Christmas Cheer.

After hosting the Regina Pats at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, the Wheat Kings will bring the curtain down on the season’s first half with a game against Brent Sutter’s Red Deer Rebels on Friday, December 16th. The Wheat Kings and Juggernaut Computers & Financial have teamed up in an effort to assist the Westman & Area Traditional Christmas Dinner during that game. All fans donating a new, unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item at Friday’s game will be entered to win a new Olympus digital camera, valued at $200.

The Christmas Dinner has been held for the past twenty years in Brandon. The first one, which was organized by former Wheat King coach Rocky Addison, was attended by thirty people and was held in a small church at the corner of 8th Street and Victoria Avenue. It’s been held at the Keystone Centre for the last seven years.

In addition to the Teddy Bear Toss and Westman Traditional Christmas Dinner, the Wheat Kings and CIBC are accepting donations of new or used books – both in their office and at Fan Services during their December home games. All books received will be donated to Christmas Cheer.

In other off ice news, veterans Mark Derlago and Bryan Kauk will be visiting Green Acres School on Thursday, December 8th as Manitoba Public Insurance, the Brandon Sun and Brandon Police Service recognize the local School Patrol Unit of the Month. In addition to receiving tickets to Friday’s game against Medicine Hat (courtesy of Manitoba Public Insurance), the local patrol members will enjoy a Party Platter, provided by Subway Restaurants.

2005 WHL Rookie of the Year Tyler Plante will be one of four Wheat Kings visiting Holland on Tuesday,December 13th as Coca Cola Bottling and Brandon Source for Sports present the third Minor Hockey Caravan visit of the 2005-06 season. Plante, Keith Aulie, Chad Erb and Andrew Clark will be signing autographs and skating with two of Holland’s minor hockey teams. Meanwhile the final two CIBC Read to Succeed visits before Christmas will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, December 14th and 15th in Forrest and MacGregor respectively. While Stephane Lenoski will visit two classrooms in Forrest, Codey Burki and Derek LeBlanc will travel to MacGregor.

Tickets to this weekend’s two home games – both in Brandon and Winnipeg – are on sale now at the Keystone and MTS Centre box offices, by calling 726-3555 (Brandon) or 780-3333 (Winnipeg) or by going on line to www.ticketmaster.ca. Saturday’s game will feature Canadian Idol Rex Goudie performing the National Anthem.
