What is rule on 16 year olds for next season. How many 16's are allowed and how many Euro's are you allowed. Are they eliminating US players on Canadian Teams?

The Canadian Development Model has the following regulations on 16s playing Major Junior:

Current Season - an average of four 16s per team (max of 80 total in the WHL). This was originally passed as a cap per team but amended in September to an average per team on a league-wide basis.
Next Season (2006-2007) - 3 16s per team
2007-2008 - a league wide cap of 40 per league. It is up to each league to decide how the 40 are allocated per team.

The Import Rule under the CDM:

Effective with the 2007-2008 season, each major junior team is restricted to one non-North American player.

American Players under the CDM:

The CHL will establish by the 2007-2008 season the maximum number of American players by team or league that can register and play on Canadian-based teams.

16yr. olds
Next year it is 60 16 year olds Per league. How each league divies that up is up to each league.

The WHL is going to have 21 teams next year, thus each team will be able to carry 2.85 16 year olds.

Some teams will thus be carrying 3 16 year olds, and someone will have to carry 2. How they will work that out is anyones guess. I have a feeling they may allow 3 per team just to make things fair in the Dub.

Euros
They have been talking about reducing the # of Euros per team to 1 for 07-08.

US PLAYERS
There is talk of limiting US born players on Canadian based teams. However this rule would not apply to US based teams. IE the entire US division would have no restrictions. Not to sure how far this may get.

Here are a couple links.

I don't see the point on limiting Americans in the CHL. It gives the American teams an unfair advantage. Perhaps they should then restrict the number of Canadians on American teams? I didn't think so either.

Would be ok to be the 2, but I would hate to be the guy that is the .85 :)

Got to remember that they are 16 year old, so a .85er could grow into a 1 or maybe even a 1.15er by the time he's 18.
